Default Evo G26gt vs DLE 30

I currently have a evolution 26gt, great running engine, have gone through 2 lower rod bearings in about 10 gallons, both covered with warranty, has anyone heard if they have fixed this problem with the new version "gx". I am looking at purchasing a Pilot RC 26% extra 260, have seen reviews with people using the DLE 30 and saying it has plenty of power, i am wondering if anyone has good information on both of these engines to help me decide if the 26 with be enough for for 3D flying in the extra 260. I had the engine in a Funtana X, a slightly smaller plane and it would hover around 1/3 throttle or just a bit over. Any input is appreciated thank you.

I didn't know there was a problem with the 26GT I've got at least 150 hours on mine with no trouble. I don't know how many gallons that is but it one of the few gassers I have that is fully broken in and has a near perfect seal on the ring.

But to answer your question, I think the internal parts between the GT, GT2, and GX are the same. I own a GT and a GX. I think the only difference is the Head, Ignition module, and prop hub..oh and the choke lever on the GX is alot nicer.

I think the Euro version GX has different internals. Pe can tell us.

I purchased an extra rod for mine when I bought the engine.

What oil were you using during the ten gallons? I run Mobil 2T @ 40-1 and have two quarts left but it's no longer available.

Mobil 2t racing is still available here in Europe in almost ever store.

I would try Motul 2t racing or grand pix.

So does anybody have any comparison, power wise between the dle 30 and evo 26,  I run Klotz super techniplate, ive been using this oil for a long time in two cycle motocross bikes and also snowmobiles with no problem.

Both engines on standard exhaust, the dle30 makes more power, a full APC prop size more power. Now there is the new MT35, it weighs 38 oz with ignition, muffler and mounts. That engine may make more power than any other engine in it's weight and size class. I ordered the 70 twin.

The DLE should definitely make more power. With VERY few exceptions, "there is no replacement for displacement".
If it is more power you seek, go with the bigger engine so you can burn more fuel, and thus get more power

You don't get any gumming from the Castor? I use Super techniplate to boost the oil content to 22% in my Byron fuel for a few lapped glow engines but I never thought to run it in a gas engine. I love the smell of castor in the morning! I wonder what Klotz modelube is. They sell it for gas r/c engines.

Since Jan 2008 MVVS has beefed up the connecting rod big end and crankpin. Since Horizon uses MVVS parts to assemble their Evolution line, The GX also has a beefed up bottom end.
I tested the engine, and achieved an honest 3.8 hp out of it (9100 rpm with 18x6 prop)
Mobil 1 2T is no longer made, but MVVS still has a large stock. I can order from them.

I get a little bit of carbon build up on the top of the piston over a period of time, maybe clean it off once a year.  I have gotten 9000 with an 18X6 APC, anyone had the same prop on a DLE 30?  I'm thinking the 26gt should have enough power for the 26% pilot rc extra 260, if not i always have room for another airplane.  Thats good to know that they beefed up the bottom ends, I sent mine in for repairs  i believe in august 2009.  So i am hoping that i have the updated crank and rod.

Pe,

Was that with a tuned pipe?

I didn't think the new con rod would fit in the case. I thought that when I went to the Horizon site the internall parts are common to the engines they sell; same part numbers for GT and GX.

no tuner on it, i put a larger carb on it and attained a few hundred rpm's, lost small amount of throttle response off idle but in the air I do not notice at all.  I put a walbro WT series 450 on it.

I would be interested to see how much i could gain with a tuned pipe, some scavenging im sure would help out.  Do you have any experience with tuned pipes on a 26?

WOW, I ran the evo 26 and never got clode to 9000 on the APC 18X6. Even the Horizon website lists a Mejzlik 18x6 at 8700. The Mejzlik is about 800 rpm less load than a APC. Then again I only had 1/2 hour of heat cycles on it. Maybe it would loosen up more over time.

Really, it's commonly available here? Maybe it's because of all those snowmobiles which still use it. Is it available in Sweden also?

Why did they stop making it in 2007 if it was so good? Health? Enviroment? Sell the rights? Patent infringement?

Too little turnover!
Yes, the 9100 rpm quoted is with the MVVS 3266 tuned pipe. A very broadband and affordable device.

The GX horizon sells and the SP Pe' sells look different. If the crankcase doesn't have the ridge around the bottom of the case to make room for the new beefed up con rod it doesn't have the new con rod, right?

Pe,

Is this correct? Does the new SP you sell have a new crankcase to fit the new con rod? Is the crank different also?

I am not sure what you mean by angled back?
All cantilever crank designs should have the included angle between cylinder and crankshaft slightly larger than 90° to compensate for crank flexing.
DA learned that the hard way.

That depends on the engine dimensions.
With a thick crankshaft about 0.05 to 0.1 degree. You do not want too much edge load on the rollers in the bearing. Better quality bearings btw have  the rollers ever so slightly barrel shaped, so they can handle the flexing better.

differences:
thicker and longer crankpin
larger big end bearing
redesigned crankcase.
These parts do not interchange with old type engines. The Change wasintroduced in 2007. Since then the engine seems to have even better power, and there have been no conrod failures that I know of.
