Got mine in the mail today. It is almost a drop in replacement for a YS 1.10. It is a bit wider and about 1/4" shorter (about even with the front of the cowl). The cowl on my Edge 540T will require just a bit of a trim for the stock muffler. I bought the large can Jtech Wrap Around Pitts and it would probably fit but only barely after some trimming. I'll save that for my next DLE 20 purchase and P-51.

I've ordered a Vess 16x8 and 17x6 sport props to try on the stand for break in. Get an hour or so on the bench and then stick a pipe on it and do a few runs to see what it does.

Had these on the forum already but here they are again, have made two more escape vent holes on either side of the spark plug lead to help the venting since these photos where posted and also tidy up around the muffler!!!

Does anyone know if the mounting bolt pattern for the DLE 55 and the DA 50 are the same?

Putting one of these in the four star 120.  Should I move the engine firewall back for better fit?  This engine's dimensions are similar to the Saito 1.20's, but of course it's a tad longer w/the rear carb.  I could easily just move it further up the beam and have plenty of clearance.  Being it's my first kit and gas engine, any advice is welcomed.

I have a MLD 28cc on a 4*120 ARF. Fuel tank over wing, batteries in fuel tank compartment, stock muffler. No extra weight on airplane, flies great. The DLE 20 will be fine.

You will need more weight in the nose.

As Jody vaguely hinted to, before you finalize the location of the engine do a CG check which should give you a fairly good idea of the best position for the engine. Also remember that gas carbs have an internal pump so the tank can be positioned on the CG to give a neutral balance.

question, would a switch like this act as a cut off switch since the engine mod needs a 4.8 battery and what size battery should i use ? thanks rye

As a low cost last resort....yes.

But how do you reach that, when your model is careening uncontrolled through the pit area?
Or, when your throttle servo/linkage fails in flight, and your model is going full bore, how do you deal with that?

Think about a remote ignition kill system.

For something better, do a "Search this Thread" on "Ignition kill".
A switch like you noted is still needed, but it's more for charging/testing the battery..

For an ignition battery, something of a 4-cell NiMh of 1650-2000 mAh is good for a start.

I use an IBEC from Syssa, on the "gear" switch, works great for about 6 months now (I had a RCGF 20cc on it earlier). The weather is nice today, cold, but that should give more lift and thrust! I am using a Vess 17-6 and it is fun to lift off in about 5 feet and just immediately go vertical! I will see if I can get someone to video it for me!

i heard that the choke can be put on a servo and you can kill the engine by the servo on one of the switch on the radio?

Ron,

That's a doable second choice, but it too has shortcomings.
Like a throttle servo, a choke servo can also fail &/or linkage come off.
Plus the added weight of a seldom used servo.

It all comes down to how safety conscious are you, of your own safety
and those around your model.....to what you're willing to pay.

I flew today, but only once, it was not an especially nice day, windy (10-20 variable) just over 40F, and gray. It started nicely, ran great, but this engine runs very cool and it did not want to maintain a very low idle after a short time because it cools off so soon! At idle, you can touch the fins and it is barely warm and even the muffler is not hot! No complaints, but experience running it in cold weather has a limited database so far I think! Aside from that, the guys at the club were all impressed, one wanted to buy the whole plane! The plus side of a cold day, is the power and lift was great, and I was hovering it at about 1/2 throttle, which makes sense from the thrust numbers I measured on the ground I suppose (15 pounds of thrust on an 8 pound plane).

Same here, guess I have to break out the cold weather gear.....My DL20 is mounted in the Aeroworks 60-90 Extra 300. What a combination....with an APC 17x6 power is great. Motor is reliable, starts with a couple of flips... maiden was yesterday, broke the 17x4W then switched to 17x6. I think I like the 17x4W better. 2 guys at the field want to buy this motor...the DL20 is going to change the face of sport RC flying. I flew for about $.15 today...

G`Day
Just need some help here!!!
Can I connect two Hobbico VoltWatch battery monitors to two of my 5 cell 2000 NiMH batteries using a small Y harness for each by connecting into the junction where the battery connects to the wire that goes to the Receiver and the other that goes to the electronic ignition?
Don't want to use two of my seven channels for this!
Just want to keep an eye an the charge in each battery before I fly.
