DLE 55 and a Pitts Muffler
Out of curiosity - would a Pitts muffler like a J-Tec wrap around cause a significant loss of performance over the stock side canister? I have not cut the cowl yet on our new Pilot Extra 260 and I am toying with the idea of using a Pitts Muffler before I make any cuts I regret later. The rest of the airplane is done and will get a maiden flight this weekend without the cowl Thanks.

Almost every pitts around muffler lost rpm. Seldon pitts muffler didn't. There are just 2 type of pitts muffler increase rpm about 200 like pictures as I know.

Thanks for the replies... that is what I thought... even if I lose a few RPM's it probably will not be noticable with so much excess power on a fairly light aircraft. Ordered the J-Tec.

You will lose some rpm but not really significant. They are however not a real great "muffler". They are using just a can
with 2 tubes welded on that do not extend into the can at all so they are pretty noisy. A machinist friend made some inserts that
slipped in to the tubes and went to the top of the can with perforations. Helped with the noise and all told I lost around 150 rpms.
