G23 conversion

Has anyone tried converting the G23 to a G26, or has anyone heard of doing this? A friend I fly with was talking about how good my 23 ran and I told him that I'd like to have the 26. He told me that he had heard of people converting the 23 by swapping out the piston and liner, along with the carb. Is this true, and if so, what would be the cost? would it be cheaper to do this or just buy a 26?

There's a guy selling a G23->G26 conversion kit on Ebay, but it has the marine water-cooled head. It certainly is not just a few pieces like piston, liner and carb. It's just about the entire motor.

To me, it's not worth the money. You can easily pick up a new G26 for $275 and keep the G23 for another plane.

Can't be done correctly..The crankcase looks the same but the transfer ports for the airplane cylinder are twice as wide and there is no way to widen the G23 case...

Thanks guys. I'll probably just stick with my 23. I have it on the Pacific Aeromodels Laser 1.20 size and it flies it pretty darn good. I don't have unlimited vert. but it is pretty fast, and most importantly DEPENDABLE. I run Amsoil 60-70:1 and I've never had a bit of trouble with the engine. As for the 26, I don't know that I'd notice "a lot" of difference with it. I think I'll just leave well enough alone. After all, it does get quite a few comments when in the air, and on the ground. It's always, "You mean to tell me you've got a gasser in that thing!" I love it!

Thanks guys,

John
