RE: RCG 26cc - Anyone using this engine?
If you mean the RCGF/Aerovate 26cc, I am. It is just past break-in, but so far so good. In fact, the other day one of the buddies at the field commented on how it just fired right up when I put the starter on it...no muss, no fuss. So, again, I don't have many hours on it at all at this point, but it seems ok to me.

Lot of them out there under various names. Some are working great, some not so great.

Jim,
RCG 26cc, RCGF 26cc and Aerovate 26cc are all pretty much the same engine. If you search this forum for any of those, you will find lengthy discussions about them. As far as I know, the RCG is the RCGF model sold by Hobby King. Many dealers will claim their RCGF is somehow better or different but in fact, these are all the same basic engine. If you buy one, you will notice the box is the RCGF box and the manual is the one originally done for RCGF and later Aerovate. In some cases, dealers have had them fitted with genuine Rcexl ignitions and Walbro carburettors to set their models apart from the stanard offering from the factory. If you are mechanically minded and able to service your own engine, you can get lots of savings by buying these engines but if you are new to gassers, my suggestion is stick with brands with less product flavours and more reliable after sales support. |

I'm probably not the best guy to make any recommendations on brands to buy, mainly because I deal in engines so any recommendation from me would be seen as me blowing my own trumpet.
There are many excellent engines out there in this class. If you want to stick with a gasser, MVVS26cc, Evolution26cc, DLE30cc (side carb and rear carb) come to mind. All good engines and on opposite ends of the budget range. Then there are the G26 and G20. Also excellent engines that will last a very long time if looked after. If I keep going, I will probably get the wrath of every engine dealer out there :) Admittedly, the longer I am involved with gas engines, the more I am a believer that you tend to get what you pay for. |

I do 110% agree that with few execptions, you are correct on the price/quality scale. To paraphrase Gucci, the Italian shoe dude, the sweetness of a low price soon fades, while the bitterness of poor quality long remains. |

Value for money seems OK,
I found it to be an aenemic little bugger. But hey, I'm spoiled. |
RE: RCG 26cc - Anyone using this engine?
I'll say you are too;)
About a Cub not doing 3d.... I'll presume you've never seen Hemple fly his 50% or good hands with a Pilot 50% Decathlon. Then you have the World Models 33% Cubs that do a pretty fair job of that too. Not at all scale but when you get tired of watching the paint dry you have the optioon for a change of pace. It's all about power. |
RE: RCG 26cc - Anyone using this engine?
I have a RCG 26 purchased from Hobby King. The engine runs nice , fast transition
idle's at 1600 rpm. I have it install in my GP Super Stearman and after about 3 gals. of gas it pulls the 14 lbs. plane along well. It's still breaking-in and turns Xoar 18x6 @ 7800 rpm. The muffler that comes with the engine does a good job on the noise level. Starts easy runs smooth and for $140.00 I think it's a good bargin. Stick2K |
RE: RCG 26cc - Anyone using this engine?
Got a question to y'all running this engine: Do you find that it doesn't take a whole lot of throttle movement to get big power changes? I'm finding it hard to adjust my radio so that my rpm's are spread out through the full range of the throttle stick. Any suggestions?

RE: RCG 26cc - Anyone using this engine?
VF84sluggo,
I programed a throttle curve on my radio (10X) and that took care of the problem. Most gassers shore this trait. Stick2K |
RE: RCG 26cc - Anyone using this engine?
What NGK plug do these motors use?
|
RE: RCG 26cc - Anyone using this engine?
CM-6

RE: RCG 26cc - Anyone using this engine?
The throttle issue more than likely stems from how you have the linkage set up. Run a search on gas engine throttle installations.
|
RE: RCG 26cc - Anyone using this engine?
Also remove the short throttle arm and replace with
longer arm. I modified a servo arm to fit the shaft. Stick2K |
RE: RCG 26cc - Anyone using this engine?
Can anyone tell me what shaft size is on the XYZ 26cc? I want to put an aluminum spinner but am not sure what size adapter to buy. 7x1.0mm, 8x1.0mm, 8x1.25mm?

RE: RCG 26cc - Anyone using this engine?
I want to use this engine on Maxsford's new SPAD. With the engine box, I was able to mount the engine even with the carb on the back. My problem I have is with the muffler that comes with the engine. In order to run the exhaust tube up and connect with a tee fitting to connect to the scale exhaust tubes that come with the kit, the muffler sticks too far forward and will not let the cowl move into position. What I need is a muffler that will mount more to the rear with the exhaust pipe sticking up. Is there an after market manufacture of mufflers? Even a pitts style muffler with a single pipe would or could work, but so far on the internet I can not find this type of manufacture. Can anyone help? Thanks Bob

RE: RCG 26cc - Anyone using this engine?
I have three RCGF engines. Two are the 26cc. One in a waco and one in a cub.The one in the waco has five gallons of gas thru it.
I really like these engines, have never had a problem of anykind. And they start with one flip, idle well and transition good. Change the throttle arm to the longer one and set up the linkage appropriately. Throttle curves help greatly as well as sub-trim for moving center stick. Jtec has some great pitts style mufflers with a narrow header. Had to use one on the cub. Works great. RCGF's pitts 1-1/8 header and Jtec's header is 3/4 of an inch. Jtec will also custom build one to your spec's. And the sparkplug is the only fault I have with the engines. Definately replace with a NGK CM6. The one I have most broke in is running a 18-10 at 7300rpm. Of course everyones will be different depending on fuel, oil, prop, altitude and so on. Good luck and enjoy. |
RE: RCG 26cc - Anyone using this engine?
And I'm no expert but I believe Aerovate is a name KMP gave their RCGF engines. If you want outstanding after purchase service use BP Hobbies. If cost is more important Hobby King is the cheapest but there's no after sale service.
No I do not have any affiliation with any of them. Just a consumer. |
RE: RCG 26cc - Anyone using this engine?
ORIGINAL: VF84sluggo ORIGINAL: apalsson ...but if you are new to gassers, my suggestion is stick with brands with less product flavours and more reliable after sales support. There loads of the RCGF26/RCG26/Aerovate26 running around in our town. They're all pretty much reliable as 2 stroke petrol engines go. They're just not very powerful and they're heavy for what they are. The RCGF 20cc is a better engines IMO, as is the DLE 20cc. Getthe timing and needle settings right and either will perform like a 1.20 2stroke glow engine. I've seen a RCGF 20 pull a 6.5kh ESM Spitfire around the sky with the timing retarded and the engine running rich. Not sure what the pilot thought he was doing but each to his own. Tuned right the engine woke up and is a work horse. You'd do well to replace that engine with one of the 20cc units, either RCGFor DLE. If a 30cc can fit then why the heck not. Warbirds were never underpowered beasts so whyshould a scale model of one be underpowered? |
RE: RCG 26cc - Anyone using this engine?
VF84sluggo, If that is the 71" wingspan put a RCGF 32 with a 20-8 prop and you could fly 3D if so desired.

RE: RCG 26cc - Anyone using this engine?
ORIGINAL: STUKA BARRY The idle is alittle finicky, but it transitions to full throttle with no hesitation and I'm getting 7300RPM's on a Xoar 17X10 prop. It pulls the BUSA 1/4 scale Cub around with some authority, not that a Cub is going to 3D or anything, but I'm pretty happy concidering its a $149.00 engine. Its excellent on fuel too. The MVVS 26cc in my 30cc Sbach spins an 18x8 Xoar prop at around 8,000 on the ground with a JTEC Pitts muffler. The Silent Beauty mufflers are far less restrictive and also provide actual noise reduction |
