bme 102
what is the difference between the 102 and the 102 evo?
is there a way to tell the two apart? |
bme 102
The older style 102 has a blue mount and no lightening holes in the case or prop washer and its not chromed. The older motors are a little heavier than the new but at 4 lbs who's counting. Chief Aircraft still uses a picture of the old style motor and BME website has the new Evo. pictures.

How much power difference could you expect?
|
bme 102
Power should be the same. The older 102 and the newer 102 use the same pistons, rods, and heads. The only difference in the motors is weight, looks, and a different reed valve block. The newer reed valve block may give it just a tad bit more power. I need more weight up front so the older style works good for me. Though I do have the newer version also. If you get an Evo. model, just make sure you have stainless bolts in the heads. Not the aluminum ones some models were shipped with.

head bolts
just checked and I do have an Evo here and just checked and I do have aluminum head bolts.
pulled one out and put a magnet to it. the bolt does not stick to the magnet. what now? was there an issue with the aluminum bolts? thanks Paul |
BME 102 Evo.
If you call Keith at BME he will send you out some new stainless head bolts. You just need to check and see if you have the 5mm or 6mm bolts. Or you can use the 10/32 size from the hardware store and I think it will replace the 5mm size or just take it with you and get some that fit. It would be a bad day if you lost a head in flight!!! My aluminum bolts were the blue color that I had to replace. The stainless ones are not colored. Also check to see if you have gaskets on the reed valve block or sylicone. Keith said I should replace the sylicone with gaskets and he sent me some.
