DLE GAS ENGINE -dependability

HI
JUST spoke with my good friend that flys the big planes in competition-( IMMAC ) asked him what he could tell me about the DLE line of engines he has seen perform at the MANY fields he flys attold me the engines are bushed at the end of the rod-and they are breaking crankshafts -i know how some report the engines are very powerful FOR THERE SIZE they are not cheep-
i would like to know just how many of you out there have that same experience with different size DLE engines (or that type design )
this business that a guy buys an engine and runs it for a few hours ( POSTS IT ON YOUTUBE LIKE HE FOUND THE NEXT BEST THING TO SLICE BREAD ) and cannot stop talking about how good the engine performs is just a buch of CRAPwe have a lot of dollars in the smallest RC models-ITs LONG TERM DURABILITY AND RELIABILITY THAT ONLY MATTERwhat are these guys thinking ??running of these engines for long periods of time is the ONLY THING that will prove there credibility for any plane i plan to use the engine in-much to much hipe going on hear with new engine lines ( a new one every day )-got to have the new whatever first to be happywhat ever happened to visiting the flying field and using the stuff you see flying at the flying fields day in and day out without any issues EX : i have watched the ZENOAH line of engines basicly perform fawlessly for the 20 years i have been flying-they are heavybut they are super reliable and durable- these are TIME TESTED engines in the hobby-now thats what i am talking about and one should be looking for to put in there pride and joy

Ask your friend what brand he flies - I suspect it is "American made" has a 2 letter name and has cylinders and cranks made in Taiwan.

He is talking out ofhis backside regarding the bushed ends on the con rod and those being the cause of breaking cranks. Sure some of the earlier ones had a crank breakage issue but they aren't the only brand to have experienced that - some far more expensive ones have expereinced it too (and continue to do so).
As for the price? They are significantly cheaper than some and a little more expensive than others.

Durability and reliability? - significantly Better than most.

My suggestion? - get a new friend - one who actually knows what he is talking about.

You did get one thing right - Zenoahs are very good when it comes to quality and reliability - as for the rest - why bother repeating a load of piffle?

And before you ask - I don't fly DLE, I don't sell DLE and have never sold DLE. I just recogninse they are the very best from China right now and a long way ahead of the other Chinese offerings.

As with many other brands, a DLE is just as good as the person using it. If the owner doesn't have a clue about engine set up then they will have problems. The same problems they would have with any other brand, including Zenoah. You read about them in here every day, especially Zenoah. The number of posts from people that can't get their Zenoah started is amazing. To a man it's because they didn't read the instructions on prop positioning.

Just make sure that you are using the right oil ratio to flush it down :)

While I don't have any long-term experience with the DLE-55 I'm running, I do have almost 3 gallons through it. Right from the get-go, it has been an awesome engine. It starts right up, idles well and turns a Vess 23B @ 7300rpm. Couldn't ask for more.

Spoken like a true DA fanboy who's opinion isn't worth much. Arrogant people make me want to puke.

It's not arrogance. Just stupidity and ignorance. You see the same thing with other brands. If the user has only experienced one brand it MUST be the best. To be otherwise means they would have to admit error.

Believe me there are those who look down their noses at people that don't own their brand and we now what brand. They grab on to any myth or urban legend to put other engines because it doesn't belong in the same league with their engine.

Leave the trolls alone. TOM had it right. Why should we argue with a fool. We enjoy what we use because it works..... if it didn't we would change. Oh, and we enjoy it more economically.

I have 17 DLE engines, plus enough parts to build a few 30's and the same 55's. They are as good as anything out there.

DL/DLE engines have been good to me, and everyone else who flys at my club

the only problem i had was when i was inexperienced and did the lawn girl/ amsoil 80:1 thing... i had a lean run or two, Jody at valley serviced my engine and its running better than ever
