Evolution radial engine?

A 7 cylinder, gasoline radial from Evolution engines. Perfect size for those CARF warbirds...

They may actually sell one here if the decimal moves to the left.

RE: Evolution radial engine?

It's about $800 cheaper than the best selling one, (RCS by Moki), in the same displacement class, so it might sell well if the quality and reliability is there. This one's made in India, so only time will tell if it's a good one.

Has any body tried the 35 cc 7 cyl. Engine?

Tbatt 08-30-2013 12:33 PM

I have the 77cc 7 cylinder in glow. It runs fantastic! The sound is to die for!

My review is on the Horizon site.

I'll bet something like that would sound awesome on the nose of a 3D plane while hovering?

Sorry, the thought crossed my mind and I couldn't resist....

What plane do you have it mounted on?.

The engine is still on the test stand. The breakin takes about four hours of run time according to the manual and that seems about right. When new the engine is very tight and needs to be carefully broken in. It started right up but it must stay at a high idle speed to keep running. I have about 3 1/2 hours on it now and it is now running on the flight mix of fuel which is a gallon of standard four cycle fuel mixed with a gallon of methanol. Actually pretty cheap fuel mix.

I'm using a Electro Dynamics glow driver that works really well to light up the seven glow plugs.

What is the rate of fuel consumption?

Supermod56 01-23-2014 01:42 AM

The Evolution 260 Gas Radial will not fit in the CARF warbirds, only the Moki's, and those just barely!

The engine has been installed on a Hanger 9 DHC-2 Beaver. It was a lot of work to get it on this airplane but the effort was well worth it. I don't have the final solution prop installed yet but the 22x12 two blade prop for the test flight worked well but has very little ground clearance. A 20x12 three blade is on the way for me to try out. With the 22x12 the fuel burn rate is around 2 ounces per minute WOT. I have a 32 ounce tank so that gives me an easy 10-12 minute flight with a reserve.

The engine runs fantastic. Here is the build link that has the test flight video. Sorry for the poor camera work but my volunteers had never used a video camera before.
