New to Gas, What Oil Choice
 

New to Gas; have a DLE55 in a Warbird that is just about finished and will be running the engine shortly; I suspect I'll get a bunch of suggestions; but what Oil are you using to mix with your gas and any particular reason why?

A lot of us use Redline Racing oil at 50:1 ratio. You can buy it at Auto Parts store. Redline is a reputable company that has been making high quality lubricants for many years. Heck, my Benz repair shop uses Redline oil for my cars too. Try to get ethanol free gasoline too if you live in high humidity area. I've had a ZDZ 50 motor go bad from using gas with ethanol from the local station.

Well excuse me for asking, sorry I posted; I thought that’s what RCU was for, to get information and answers; I realize the question has already been asked, but did you ever think that may be there may be more current or recent information that has not been posted, and if people don’t want to answer the same question again, then they can chose not to, to which I wish you had chose not to.

No worries.

The answer is any good quality oil (such as Red Line and others) will work if used in the proper mixture.

The question has been asked 100 times, but no one asking ever tries to do a search before posting. That is where the friction occurs. RCU has a ton of answers to questions already asked. A little "due diligence" on the poster's part goes a long way to eliminate the friction.

Stihl HP Ultra +++++

All the way baby!! I've been running it in my DLE's for three yrs now and not an issue. I can not say the same for other brands mentioned above. What works for DA may not work for DLE.

Stick with Stihl and you won't be sorry

At the present I have a few bottles of Pennzoil to use up, but I found Echo at Home Depot in the quart bottle. I think I will move to that just for the convenience of the container. Any oil will work for the way I put time on my engines. ZDZ says 91 octane at 40:1 for my 80. So that is what all my engines are going to get. They better learn to like it!!! :D

Stayt away from lawngirl and amsoil unless you are a pro... a slightly lean or hot run can wreak havok



play it safe and use Stihl Ultra HP or Pennzoil aircooled

there are many quality oils out there, but i can vouch for the ones mentioned

But sometimes the choice gets limited by availablity,
for a given location. Online shopping can sometimes help.

I'm afraid I don't understand the "friction". If you believe the question has been done to death what compulsion has you reading it? If you believe the member is missing out on the vast resource of previous posts, a nudge through a PM might save the embarassment of being ridiculed on his own thread! It amazes me that some people will spend more time and effort composing a vitriolic rebuke than it would have taken to simply answer (or ignore) the question in the first place.

Just an example... technology is changing every day so what is good today is not good tomorrow, so what was good for somebody 3 or 4 years ago will not be good today. I’m hearing all the time this little excuse " historically have not work"  well historically is the past and in the real world today are many many other brands that could help our friend to do the job. You guys need to remember that this is a hobby and we need to help each other all the time, I have found people in this forums that can help you at no charge, someone here fix my engine at no cost, I was shock but there still good people here. For a while I used Amsoil in my DLE55 and always had black residue on the bottom of my plane. I changed to Stihl HP Ultra (40:1 ratio) and haven't looked back. The engine after 6 gallons runs like a champ and the plane remains clean. :D

I agree with Free Bird. While I don't use Stihl yet, I do use 40:1 without much mess. I haven't had much to clean. One plane has longer pipes and stays cleaner than the others. Another has the pipes flush with the fuse and it gets a little oily. Maybe the longer pipes are the secret to a clean plane at any mixture. Krud Kutter cleans the belly with one paper towel once a month. Not a big deal compared to the glow engines.
