RCD 26 CC Gas Engine from Hobby King

Hi there y'all,

This is the first time of mine to be on this Gas engines forum. In terms of gas engines, I'm a NOOB. The plane I've ordered is this one

http://www.nitroplanes.com/ni20moya1...ProductReviews

The engine I was looking for considering DLE20 or Zenoah20, but prices are kinda killing me. I have never flown a plane of this size neither a gas engine. Been flying for the last 7 years. I'm not a 3D flier but anyway, I need your feed backs and thoughts on that motor, if I may go ahead and buy it, If anyone's using it, I need your suggestions, and I really thank y'all in advance.

That's the engine

Thanks a lot

Mody

Just keep in mind when buying from Hobby King. Absolutely no support for anything whatsoever. For the little extra funds BP Hobbies is a much better source.

acerc,

Thank you very much for your response. I can understand pretty well what you are saying, since I tried to call their USA toll free number, and there was no response at all, no operator let alone a auto-recording.

Thanks anyway though,

I might to with DLE20 I think or same engine through BP hobbies. Do you have any thoughts on that engine? any experiences?

I bought two of the FTL26s which are the piston ported version of the engine. It's very smooth, runs well, not super powerful:
Xoar 16x8 7740 rpm, 2200 idle.
Xoar 17x7 7200 rpm, 2050 idle.
MA 16x6 8200 rpm, 2000 idle.
Trgy 16x8 7500 rpm, 2000 idle. Turnigy is a laminated cherry prop.
My G-23 with the same 16x8 Xoar turns 8200 rpm idle 2100 rpm.
I think it's a keeper, but you won't get support from HC. Keep in mind these are really simple two stroke motors, and you have help here on RCU if you need it.

Please help me understand the difference between

1. The beam Mount
2. Rear- B crank Case

What engine should go with this plane, 20 CC or 26 CC

I ordered it on Wednesday and it is gonna be delivered on coming Monday.

Thanks in advance

Sounds like the HG 20cc has a piston port type of intake rather than reed valves...? (for fresh fuel intake) The piston port is simply a port in the cylinder that opens as the piston reached TDC and the carb is bolted to that port with a mating adaptor or block. Reed valves (DLE) are better in some ways because as the piston begins it's downward motion crankcase pressure will push the reeds shut and contain all of the crankcase pressure - with a piston port the charge can begin coming back out if the intake system and rpms are not perfectly in sync.

The 26cc engine he listed is a rear reedvalve engine, it will work fine. It uses engine stand-off which are in the center bottom of the engine picture and are used in place of the beam mounts supplied with the plane.

Solo,

Your stand up for DLE 20?

http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...&I=LXAEPW&P=FR

So 20CC is good enough? or should I go with 23 or 26CC?

One more important question please guys bear with me, since I'm getting myself into Gas so I gotta learn a lot on this.

1. Do I have to have 2 battery packs, one for Ignition and other for Receiver & Servos, or One battery back would do the job?

Thanks

soarrich,

So you suggest rear reedvalve engine?

soarrich 12-01-2011 02:05 PM

RE: RCD 26 CC Gas Engine from Hobby King

The engine you had listed is a rear reed valve engine, so is the DLE20. The DLE's are the best engine out of China. You'll get the best aftermarket support from Jody at Valley View RC.

Beam mount means that engine is mounted via mounting lugs which are part of the engine case, just like a glow engine.
Rear mount means that the engine has flanged type mounting lugs at the rear of the engine which are used to mount the engine to the firewall, and in most cases metal or wooden standoffs (dowels) are used to provide adequate space for the rear mounted carb.

The all up weight of the model suggests that either engine will fly the plane, and it really depends on your style of flying. If you are pedal to the metal type then the 26cc might be a better choice, while if you are a general relaxed type sport flier then the 20cc might be just the ticket for you. I would also suggest that since you are new to gas powered models, that you read the Newbie to Gas Engine Information thread here.

Soarrich,

Please let me know what kind of engine mount I would need for this plane? What kind and size of prop spinner I need, and wooden props of Xoar are best deal or Nylong props?

Do I need extra battery pack for ignition or one would work fine?

karolh,

Also keep in mind that Nitro Planes have poor manuals and many of their planes need to be fixed during assembly. Also their support is suspect as well.
To answer your second question about battery's. Yes you should use two. One for the receiver and one for the engine.
Also Jody is no longer with VVRC but they still service the DLE and are very good

Welcome to gas engines, where dead sticks, fiddling with needles and goo covered models are a thing of the past. Sure hope that you stick around and enjoy the comradrie here.

Soarrich,

Please let me know what kind of engine mount I would need for this plane?

On the DLE you would use the beam mounts that come with the plane, on the other engine you'd use the standoffs that come with the engine.

What kind and size of prop spinner I need, and wooden props of Xoar are best deal or Nylong props?
Use only wood props.

Do I need extra battery pack for ignition or one would work fine?
Use two separate batteries.

Do I have to buy the engine mount? the Dubro one, as I've decided to buy DLE20, the dubro mounts do I have to buy?

Looking at your kit it seems to have motor mounts in it, try them first.

Prop has to be wooden or it can be Nylon one

16X6 is a best size, I want more thrust not speed. How about this nylon one

http://masterairscrew.com/16x6classi...propeller.aspx

or This wooden one.

You can get by with the MA prop on a 20~26cc motor, but I would only use wood props on anything bigger. I would still opt for the wood on a 20~26cc motor just because I've never cut myself on a wood prop, I can't say that for the black or gray steak knifes though.
