DLE 30 high power with throttle closed!

I have been flying a DLE 30 rear carb for 50 or 60 flights with no problems.I just changed the prop and left the cowell off for tuning but have experienced an undesireable occourence, during the flight I reduced the throttle, there was a lot of lag so I landed to investigate.I opened the throttle then closed the trottle revs remained high. If I then blip the throttle the revvs die, somthing is sticking, but what?

Change out the throttle servo, see if that helps.

Try readjusting the idle mixture and speed to allow a slower idle. The ignition advance I believe is 1700 to 2000 RPM. The engine will be reluctant to drop down to below advance rpm if initial idle speed is too high and the mixture too rich....causing the engine to idle too fast in flight.

You say you have the cowl off for tuning. Can you see the throttle arm?Does it move erratically? Is there any correlation between the revs staying high and the movement of the throttle arm?If not, and you have been tuning the engine, you may have the low needle lean.

Jerry has it right I think. You're too lean on the low speed. Maybe due to cooler temps, or whatever. It's not unusual at all for these to do this. The timing curve doesn't help things a bit...

The cowl being off could change your high and low settings. If you were on the verge of lean with the cowl on, having it off could add more air making it leaner. The manual for DA reccomends setting the needles with the cowel on for this reason.

Thanks for all your ideas,I noticed that the butterfly spindle had some end play so I pulled the motor and had a good look. The butterfly was loose! At high openings it was jamming against the carb body/ventury...blipping the throttle was enough to un -jam. Re-tightening the valve (with locktite) sorted the end play as well. Icleaned the carb and the filter. I am hopingmy problemis fixed. (with no damage to the servo) I am amazed how clean this engine is externally and peeking in to the crank case. (compared to glow motors with the same use/abuse) I will post the result tomorrow.
