Fuel system setup ?

Ok I am setting up my first gas Engine, a Zenoah g38 and I have a question or two about the fuel line setup. I have 1/8” Tygon Tubing. My question is what size brass tubing should I use?

1/8”brass tubing seems a bit small should I use solder on 1/8” fuel line barbs or get larger brass tubing?

Is a felt fuel pickup clunk a good idea?

I have a Du-bro Gas tank stopper.

OK, I'll bite! 1/8" tubing will be just fine and I prefer to use the barbs. Push the line well past the barbs and secure with a nylon tie behind the barb. The ties only job it to keep the line from sliding off and doesn't have to be excessivley tight. The barbs will make the tight seal with the line. Other methods are also in common use and many work very well. Someone will chime in with these methods I'm sure.

The felt Walbro clunk filter works excellent and has a reasonable price at most any good hardware or small engine shop.

The DuBro red stopper is the one to have. Good luck with your project!

Just meant that I'll be first to answer. Must be a regional thing? Kinda like the first fish to the bait.

I was using barbs but switched to the ferules used in compression fittings at somebody from here's suggestion (sorry, don't remember who?). They're cheap, easy to find, and work great!

I might nibble but I never bite hard! ;) I thought your questions were just fine.

I've thought about using those also as you can buy them in bulk at any good hardware or plumbing supply and they are cheap. They would certainly do the job just fine.

Use the fuel line barbs and use light tie wire to lock the fuel lines on. Use a walbro filter pickup, will stop air bubbles being drawn up, thats why they are used in weedeaters and chain saws. The Dubro gas fuel stoppers leak over time, thats why I started making my own fuel tanks.

Cheers

You will live to see another day :)
Re the barbs, another commonly used method is to wrap a couple of strands of fine wire around the tubing and solder it on. Just remember to lightly wipe the area with some fine sandpaper after doing that to knock off any sharp points.
I like to use tie wraps to secure the fuel line rather than wire because I find it less likely to cut into the Tygon

Pa-18cub150 , The only dumb question is the one that doesn't get asked .
Please never be affraid to ask any questions - your questions are as valid as anyone else's.
There are those who would flame a post for what they consider a dumb question - in my opinion they are the ones who are being dumb and their responces should be weighed accordingly.

For 1/8" tygon, you may want to use 1/8" ID (5/32" OD) brass or aluminum. The DuBro gas stopper will leak eventually.

Some folks have been making their own tanks from Fiji water bottles and using metal fittings from various sources (Centra Hobbies and Heli Proz have these).

I have sourced and am now supplying plastic fittings at about half the cost of the metal. I have also found a good source for square gas tanks that do not use stoppers. These come in 8 oz 16 oz 24 and 32 oz sizes. A complete kit is about 15$. PM me if anyone is interested
