Decided to try a cheap Chinese engine, all the reviews on the rcg 50cc engine from Hobby king were fairly positive. Recieved engine and it looked pretty good. Mounted it up in a older GP christen eagle, was all set to test run it today, went to install the sparkplug and it just slides in and out of the cylinder head. The hole wasn't even close to being tapped correctly. I'm not going to bother trying to find a solution through hobbyking, so I need to find a cylinder that will work on this thing. Any suggestions on what might work? Maybe a dl 50?

And yes, lesson learned. Never again.

A machine shop or motorcyle shop can repair it with a helicoil insert for a fairly low cost. My buddy had one on a ZDZ done and it works fine.

You can buy a helicoil repair kit at your local Pep Boys auto store and do it yourself.

I was just looking into thread repair kits. I pulled the cylinder and don't like what's going on inside the engine as well. Feels like sandi in either the main or needle bearings

A lot of Chinese engines need to be cleaned before the first run. Look at this as a challenge.

I'm going to pull the engine and dissemble completely tomorrow to see what the story is.

i bought a 15 cc from hobby king had to send it back they said it was bad and just gave me credit for it took me 6 months to get all this wont give me a refund no more will i buy from them

I won't even bother trying to send back. Still haven't had a chance to mess with it again.

Want it? It's yours for $125. I just can't be bothered with it. I'm gonna stop trying to save money and just go back to name brands. Lesson learned. I haven't done anything with the engine except remove the cylinder. Who knows, maybe fix the threads and it'll run. I'm just not gonna do it myself.

I have 3 of them. One of them in my Ultimate inhaled a small washer or something metal and scored the cylinder and piston. I ordered a DLe55 ccylinder and piston and ring from tower. All I had to do was drill out the cylinder mounting holes one drill size larger to mount the cylinder. There was a slight difference in bolt spacing. Less than a mil from front to back. It runs great and runs smoother at idle than the stock RCG. The porting on the dle55 is much nicer than the rcg50 cylinder. Nice crosshatch and the ports are more open than the rcg. I have about 8 flights on it with Penzoil 32 to 1 to seat the new ring.

I have had zero luck finding a shop on long island that can helicoil this engine. I'm not buying the kit, it costs almost as much as the engine. How does a dle 55 cylinder fit on a 50cc engine?

I was curious, did they include the wrong size spark plug in the box with the engine? I would check to see what spark plug fits. They may have stuck the wrong plug into the box when they were boxing up the engine at the factory.

No, typical cm6 sized plug. The threads were just cut too shallow.

I have one to. First thing a did was to disassemble and clean it with petrol. Found some metal debris on the bottom of the pan. No problems what so ever. Didn't touched H an L needles for first few tanks. Worked nicely right out of the box (except cleaning).

I have it now on a 30% Thunder Tiger Pitts M12.

That is a major bummer then. If you can't get a helicoil for it or make a insert to re-drill and tap it for the CM-6, I wonder if you could go the next size larger in spark plugs and just drill and tap it for the bigger spark plug. Yeah I know it sucks, I was just thinking of a way for you to try and get it to run.

We have a threaded brass insert that will fix the problem.

Got one of these RCG 50 from the Hobby Kings USA warehouse. Engine looked good and I took the engine aprt to check for anything that my have been left after it was assembled. Everything looked good so I put the engine back together and then mounted it to a test stand. Fulled it up with a 30 to 1 gas/fuel mix. Open the needles on the carb to 1 3/4 turns out for both high and low. Mounted a Zinger 22x8 prop on it. Closed the choke and turn on the ignition. Flip the prop 8 times and got a pop. Closed the choke and 3 more flips and she was running. Ran three 10oz tanks of fuel thru the engine at these settings than closed the high end 1/8 turn for the 4th tank. Engine got a pop on just 2 flips. Closed the choke and started on one flip. Ran the engine up to top end first just a few seconds but I got 7400RPM with a Zinger 22x8 prop. I am really glad I bought this engine:D I will be mounting the RCG 50 to a CMP 80" Zero.

jstanton, any progress with the zero? I was thinking of getting the cmp zero as well. I have another HobbyKing motor, the TGY 52, laying around and thought it might be enough if I move everything and its mother in law up fwd of the cg. If not, I was looking at maybe a RCG 50 as well. If this plane needs a 50 to fly, Im not sure the tgy will pull its as from all I have read its still about the power of a 40-45, but since I have it figure I should break it in and use it on something, and if not, just curious to see how yours does (and curious about the zero as well)

This is my second CMP Zero. I sold my last one to a friend and it has a Brillelli 46 in it and it flys great. If the Turnigy 52 will spin a 20x10 prop OK the plane will be a great flyer. Put everything as far forward as you can. I had all batteries and servo's as far forward as I could get them and I still had to put 2 lbs of lead in the cowl area to blance this plane. The CG is OK at 5 3/4" to 6" from leading edge. Good luck you'll love the way this CMP 50cc Zero flys:D
