First gas engine?
Looking for some (more) advice on a first petrol (gas) engine. I've been building and flying for 35 years, so no newcomer, but never bigger than a .90 glow. Now I've bought a Sig clipped wing Cub kit and want to try petrol. Glow fuel costs about 25$/gallon here.
My first thoughts were to get a G-26, but now I've sen the MVVS 1.6 and wonder which would better suit my needs. I want the Cub to fly in a scale-like manner, reasonable aerobatics as per the full-size, but not a hovering 3D monster. I would also like to be abel fly it with floats. My most important criteria are economy and ease of operation. Any suggestions? |
First gas engine?
Hello David..
I'm prejudiced... I'd go with the Zenoah. OTOH, I've never set eyes on the MVVS engine, so I've got nothing with which to make a comparision. Performance wize, the G26 on a Sig Cub is a fine combo, but I'd for sure get it from Ralph at R/C Ignitions with his ignition setup and a pitts style rear muffler. Lighter, easier starts, better idle. best of luck! |
First gas engine?
One thing I forgot to mention, I want to buy the engine in Europe as otherwise I have to pay tax & duty on it, which can add 25% or more to the cost.

First gas engine?
pick our brains here, then spend the money over there??
tsk, tsk, tsk.. ;) geeze, i'd think you'd be able to get one of those bohemian engines cheeper there than a stock zenoah... ..some would say "you lucky dog, you!" :D |
First gas engine?
And I thought this was an International forum! ;)
MVVS and Zenoah prices are pretty much the same over here, so it comes down to suitability for the task at hand. |
