It has a open port cylinder with no boost port.

Why a single 60 when they already have a 55? A compact 60 twin would have been a better choice I believe.

This will replace the 55GT which was far too problematic to be considered a true O.S.

Plus it's front mounted carb made installation in some cowled models quite challenging.

Strange how they have migrated towards the more conventional gasser layout with a separate plated cylinder and rear intake. Even the cylinder fin spacing is more typical of gas engines. I suspect the intake port layout w/o boost port won't be a problem if the ports are well done. This should be a much cheaper engine for them to produce and it wouldn't surprise me if the cylinder actually comes out of China!

Quite likely. I believe tehy ahve finally started to wake up to the requirements of LSA pilots and airframes.<div>Light, torquey engines that are available ate reasonable cost (O.S. will always be a price leader but that does not mean stupid expensive).</div><div>They ahve realised that theres a recession going on and that the bread and butter is now in the 30cc and 50cc classes as far as gas engines go.</div><div>Anyone likely to buy a ARF suited for 1.20 2Stroke glow to 2.202stroke and equivalent 4 stroke will likely look for a lower operating cost gasser instead.</div><div>Bread and butter in the entry level is still a .46Glow or .55 and the new 46AX being based on the 55AX platform seems to bare that out.</div>

ignition problems mostly (easily solved with a RCEXL unit) but also carb issues, and then the odd user issue due to misinterpretting the aforementioned issues and leaning out the engines too much.<div>Most recent failures I've seen is broken crank pins. In one case it was the the owners 2nd unit.</div><div></div><div>It was O.S first gasser and I dont think they completely thought through how get their glow engine market become sensitive to the challenges of gassers.</div><div>The 33GT is a massively better engine so I think the 22 (although portly) will be good as well and since the 60 will follow a proven formula I'm guessing OS won't get it wrong this time.</div><div>That said, theres plenty of people who did not have issues with the 55GT.</div>

I've been flying the GT55 all summer, once broke in its a very powerful engine, no issues what so ever from the engine, Can't say the same by the owner. Sounds really good with the Slimline muffler, a nice low growl to it. Trust me you will like this engine, and this is from a person who actually owes one.

I certainly hope they took all the lessons learned from their 33 and put it into their 60. I've not seen their 55 run but I own a pair of their 33's; a truly amazing engine especially when piped

In the photo of the con rod, doesn't it look like plain brass bushings? Perhaps an illusion.

I hated the GT-55, I had ignition issues amongst other things. A friend is running the GT-33 and it is very smooth, good power, but likes to start in reverse sometimes. My biggest issue with OS is Tower being the importer and the lousy service of their "Hobby services" branch. <div>http://youtu.be/weCuIb5370U

The con rod is not bushed. I copied the photo and enlarged it to make sure. I see bearings on the rod's ends.

I'd find bushings on a gas rod's ends hard to believe from any manufacturer let alone OS. The engine may have other faults but the rod's ends are possibly not included on that list

I have been running the 55 on a Yak for two years and it runs great. It was one of the first off the lot that I picked up from Tower. I have nothing but good things to say about it, very powerful and reliable and well built. I have another one NIB also.

Hope we get some more photos soon of the crank and bearings, etc. It does appear to be an aluminum rod, which is the first large gasser I can think of with that feature. I asked a while back on one of these forums about steel vs aluminum rods, especially in the small 20cc size, and the answers were generally that steel was used for durability...
