DLE 55RA first start
So far so good this engine is very easy to start. Its new so its dry and with a little priming and the choke set it fired right up the first time.
I had it idle for 15min at the factory carb setting with no need to adjust. The digitach was at 1450-1650 rpm and the temps were cool. Fuel mix is at 30:1 with Klotz oil. Prop is a Zinger 22x8. Mounted to a TF GS Corsair. 2S 3200mah LiPo pack. It is loud though so running it out in the yard is not the best option so I cut it shorter than Id like. It sounds great, I cant wait to get to fly it. More info to come, please share your experiences with this engine. |

What are your impressions about the noise? The muffler seems like more of a manifold than a muffler.

RE: DLE 55RA first start
Thats not a bad description. Its pretty open and you can see right down inside to the box portion. It would have to be bigger and baffeled in order to decrease the noise.
It was running next to the house idling and then I walked around to the back yard and it was noticable but not too loud. At full power for a couple seconds it was very loud standing behind the plane. The engine comes with exhaust tube extensions for larger cowls but this would not help quiet the noise. The rear exh. version is supposed to have slightly more RPM than the side exh. version. The side exh. version offers more quiet pipe options. |

Actually those silicone tubes will lessen the noise a bit. Also, if you can find tubing that is a snug fit inside the muffler tubes, you can drill holes in them and then secure them with a sheet metal screw. I have used both techniques successfully in other gas engines.

Im not concerned about the noise personally but for some fields with restriction of about 90db it might be an issue. Luckily our club site is in farm country next to a rail road.

I was going to say, Coeur D'Alene your nearest neighbor is probably two states away! :D
TBM sells inserts that loose a little power but lessen the racket on the stock mufflers. |

DL826 Can you find out if the materials in the metal parts are cerified in any way in a DLE20cc engine or any other size engine? Like the rod material data and crank pin data. Thanks Capt,n
