Bowman ring question

Guys I bought a Bowman ring for my RCGF 26. The engine comes factory with two rings. When I put the Bowman ringin, am I supposed to remove the second ring in the engine or just replace the top ring?

Replace them both.

RE: Bowman ring question

Remove both rings, run bowman ring in top grove, run only one ring, per Frank B.

I usually leave the stock ring in the second groove, and run a new Bowman in the top. Just my choice. The most power would be from a Bowman ring in the top groove only, but it wouldn't be a significant change.

RE: Bowman ring question

As a rule an engine with 2 rings are more inline with an industrial application like the Zens are and are prone to last a very long time. Granted the extra ring has some extra drag and can cost a little performance. The idea of using just one ring in the top groove is fine, but it makes me wonder how much crap and crud will get trapped in the lower ring groove over time and maybe create it's own set of issue's down the road. Myself depending on how much use the engine has on it now would dictate weather I replaced just the top ring or both.

RE: Bowman ring question

Question...When the balance of a new engine is designed, is the piston weight with the ring/rings together or is it just the weight of the piston? Seems like with a 2 ring piston, the balance could be made better or worse with the use of just one ring or 2 rings. Never thought about that before!!! Capt,n
