throttle servo

Hi,

just wanted to know what servo would be best for throttle on a 30cc gasser? I read somewhere that you would want higher resolution metal gear servo for throttle for better response once the ignition curve is set

RE: throttle servo

I just use a standard size/torque nylon geared servo on my throttles. I would tend to think that if one were to encounter throttle servo problems, it would be from engine vibration transmitted through the linkage to the servo and causing metal geared servos to wear and get sloppy. I haven't seen or heard of this however; it's just my theory. Never had a problem with standard servos myself.

I use good  quality standard servo and  good quality mini-servos and have had no trouble on medium and larger gassers.  I  have had trouble with lower quality minis mounted closer to the engine and I believe that was due to vibration. I have used a standard size servo on the firewall with no problems.

The Futaba 3004 or JR 517 should be all the servo you need for throttle.

For the average sport flyer, about anything you have not already in use? I have a 20+ year old servo in one plane I fly a LOT!

The new Hitec 430BH is fast and cheap and can handle high voltage.
No reason to buy the old S3004 anymore.

RE: throttle servo

If you are shopping to actually buy a servo for a throttle, high speed is not necessary nor advised. A too fast throttle action can cause acceleration problems.

I do not know where he got that HI speed servo Idea...a long arm on the carb end helps and setting the correct throttle curve is the way too go..............
