Evolution 10cc engine - Tank Setup
I got the Evolution 10cc engine and was setting up the gas tank. Does it setup similar to a Glow engine where the pressure line connects to the muffler and goes into the tank to push the gas into the engine, unlike a Walbro carb setup where the other line coming out of the tank can just stay open for air to enter.

Yes.
It sets up just like a glow engine using muffler pressure would. Because of that, the biggest difference between it and other gassers is you need to pay attention to tank height and distance from carb to tank, keeping that as short as possible. |
Also make sure you are using a gasoline stopper and lines(black neoprene or yellow Tygon) inside and outside the tank and put a filtered or sintered clunk on the pick-up line . Check the muffler and if it hasn't been sealed, take it apart and reassemble using high temperature engine sealant around the joints and on the rod/bolts.

I used the clunk and fuel filter they supplied with the engine. The black neoprene line I used in the tank. Hopefully it won't get stiff inside the tank.http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/atta...mentid=1934800http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/atta...mentid=1934801http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/atta...mentid=1934802http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/atta...mentid=1934803
Here's some Pics. |

Here's some Pics. You will need to use the included fuel line as a connection to the muffler. The Tygon will melt away within a couple of minutes of running the engine and you will lose the muffler pressure ... that is why we included the FKM (Generic for Viton) fuel line with the engine. It is not neoprene and is a much better solution than anything else in the marketplace. Ask us how we know? 2-1/2 years of testing on these engines before we released them, Pete |
Is that because the exhaust is higher temp than the standard glow engine. I have a tee can I run from the muffler connection to the tee with the black tubing or should the whole line to the tank be the black tubing that's included. How about the tacometer that's included I hooked it up but I see no readout. The other side is a small connecter does that hook up to a battery.

Yes - The exhaust is a much higher temperature. We are running lines dtraight from the muffler to the tank with the tubing included. I would suggest staying away from any inline connecter to change line styles 1) there is no benefit to running the tygon in the muffler pressure position and 2) an inline connector just adds a possible failure point in the future.
Are you hooking the tachometer lead directly into a Spektrum TM1000 telemetry unit in the rpm position? You should have an rpm display on your transmitter if you are. The other two cables from the ignition are to the battery power (the female connector with a red and black wire) and the ignition sensor connector (a male connector with three wires). The inline T's on the muffler and supply side of the tanks allows for a fuel tubing coming out of the cowell. One is for filling the tank and the other (on the muffler side) is for overflow so you know the tank is full. You plug both before starting. Otherwise you have to use a third tank line which I think can be more of a source problems than the T connections. In 20+ years of flying I have never had problems with the T connectors.
I use Futaba FAASTso I can't use the Tacometer - thanks for specifying. |
