DLE35RA GAS:OIL ratio
A quick question, I know this info exists in numerous places in the Forums, did a search, came back with a ton of stuff to wade through, most was extraneous, what type of oil, etc; I have a brand new DLE35RA, the manual calls for a 30:1 GAS/OIL ratio; is this just for 'BREAK-IN'; I run 40:1 on everything else, I think I even ran this breaking-in new DLE 55 Engines, never had a problem; is the 35 different, or can I use 40:1 without a problem as well, I guess I could just put a little extra oil in the fuel can? any info would be appreciated, thanks!

In my opinion, 40-1 is okay if you have adequate cooling. I use 32-1 because it's easier to measure 4 ounces to a gallon rather that 3 and some percentage. I like to keep things simple!

Same as lifer, mine runs well on 32 to 1, Husky or Stihl synthetic, can't go wrong.

Same as the above. I run 32:1 because it is easy to measure and remember. Further, I see no advantages to running less oil.

Keep it simple is my motto.

I have heard people complain about cleaning their planes after use when more oil is used. Me I would rather clean then repair or replace! |

The smaller engines do like more oil, and current thinking says it doesn't hurt anything to run extra in the bigger ones as long as you're using decent oil. I think you'd be OK at 40:1 after break in. A lot of us though (myself included) are going for easiest way out and going with a single gas can, running whatever mix your smallest engine demands. This leaves me running 20:1 in everything. Have been doing that for a couple of seasons now with no known issues other than having to clean them more often. That's a negligible price to pay for the simplicity one gas can provides in my mind, so that's my vote. -Al |
Me forth, 32:1
I run my BME 61 twin and my DLE 35 with the same gas mix, the twin was running with a 50:1 mix before, the extra oil has come with some benefits. Also what Al said. |
As far as cleanup goes, even at 32-1, it's a heck of a lot less to clean up compared to glow fuel with 20% oil!!!
