Evolution 10CC gas engine (Early version no pump on Carb) need help!
I noticed that the new version of this engine has a pumped Carb. on it. If I buy the new Carb from Horizon will it be compatible with this engine?
Would I have to modify anything to make it work? Thanks in advance for any help I receive. |
Been there, done that. The engine will need a nipple installed in the crankcase for the fuel pump to get it's pressure/vacuum signal for the carb's fuel pump. This will involve pulling the engine down so you can clean up the metal particles left from that operation. After that, you just reassemble and you're good to go. Carb sets up exactly like the original.

I just put the nipple in the backplate. Much easier.
|
Agreed, that would be much simpler. As the back plate is just a few thousands of an inch thick, and the crank/rod swing by very close internally, I'd like more detail on how you did that.

years ago I did this mod to install a Cline pump on a Moki 2.4.
Cline said to drill thru the motor mount. That gives you plenty of metal to install the nipple without interference with the rod. |
Just tap the backplate in the middle. The crank goes around it. The small OS gas engines get the pressure this way.
|
If you say you have a running version of what you are talking about, I believe you. Just looking for that confirmation. Bad information could easily prove to be an unnecessary expensive lesson here.

Just did it to my 15 also.

How about a photo of this??? A picture is worth a thousand words !
|
It is buried in a plane. You also have to file off the nipple on the inside of the back plate. Flush with the backplate. Easy enough to do. the nipple is soft brass.

My concern is regarding how thick the material is that you are drilling and taping for the nipple. If it's not thick enough to carry at least 3 threads or more, thinking there's not enough material there for a solid install.

It has been done for years. Nothing new.

You can also consider keeping your carb and adding a separate fuel pump, the new RCGF 10 pump will turn the standard carb to a pumped setup at a minimal cost, it sells for around $8 at HK and a few bucks more with the local dealer. http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/s...p_M10013_.html |
