Equivilent Engine size?
 

Hello all,
Im just starting in gas engines from Glow and I was hoping someone could clarify what a comparable engine size would be.
The airframe calls for a .65-.80 fourstroke.
Heres where my confusion comes in.
They list it as 65-.80 cu.in. (10.6-13.1cc) 4-stroke , When i looked into a small gasser I saw the Saito FG11 which is @ a 10.88cc however the reviews i see on that engine are saying its for a .40 size plane.

The Kit im building is a Tiger 60 Delux, I just dont want to crazy oversize the motor to pull straight verticals off the runway. But i also dont want it to be massively underpowered either. "Though i do tend to stay on the higher side of the suggested range, you can always throttle back, but can only push the stick so far =P
I know alot of people have said to stick to nitro for that size, Its just becoming very difficult to get nitro around me lately and the cost is insane per gal, not to mention having to buy 4gal at a time.

Any help would be appreciated.

A gasoline powered engine will make less power than a glow fueled engine of the same size. A Saito 15cc gas four stroke would be a great choice.

Ok so i did not order from hobbyking, Though could you explain why i should avoid them? I know i havent ordered from them in the past but just curious.

OK, so you've ordered an engine from an outfit that has a great reputation for taking care of it's customers. I think they have a 2 year warranty on the engines they sell as well.

Hobbyking on the other hand, has a terrible reputation regarding customer support, and will very often request you send the engine back to CHINA for service work!

If this is your first gasser, there's a good chance you're going to need a hand. Many times you can get that from a forum like this one, but having the "Ace in the hole" is/should be quite a comfort.

Good to know about Hobbyking, Glad i didnt jump the gun and order it. I also noticed its WAY heavier than the 15ccBM

Always research a vendor before making an online purchase. In this case, you were lucky, and got a warning.

Taking the time to check out a vendor can save a lot of grief and money.

Over the years I have taken the chance and bought small low cost items from HK and so far I've had good luck with all but one of my purchases but based on the horror stories I read or heard about from others I would not purchase fairly high priced items that might require after sales assistance or warranty work from them.

I think you made a very good engine selection for your model and I'm sure you will enjoy the engine. We have several in our club which have all proved to be excellent performers and are quite user friendly.

I buy from HK on occasion and so far have had good luck with all purchases. I don't buy big ticket items though and I assume going into the transaction that I will have to self warranty any bad items.

Though I think their customer service completely sucks, their prices often make it worth the gamble that you won't need customer service! Most of my Lipo batteries, elec. motors, speed controls, elec props and misc hardware all come from there. None of this is very expensive, so the risk of a big loss isn't very high. ALL orders are payed by credit card, guaranteeing I'll have final say on deals gone sour, which has happened. If they aren't agreeable when it comes time to settle the matter, it's just a couple minutes time filling out an online form at the credit card companies web site to get the charges reversed. Credit card company has little sentiment when it comes to over seas dealers.....
