DLA 32cc Problems

Didn't see much about the DLA 32. I got a Top RC Spitfire used with a DLA 32. Flew for about two years with no problems. Then it started running poorly, would not idle, couldn't kill with throttle closed all the way. Thought it was a carb problem. Removed engine and cleaned carb. Didn't see any obvious problems. Engine acted the same. Decided I would just get a new carb. But couldn't find a Tillison carb. Got a carb for a RCGF 32. Same size with an external pulse line. Installed. Same problem. Found the insulator block was cracked where the pulse line nipple went in. I thought I found the problem. Replaced the block. Hard to find DLA parts. Still had the same problems. Its a single cylinder two cycle gas. It is not that complicated. So removed engine again and started disassembling. Found problem, finally. Anyway, part of the cylinder/crank case gasket was blow out. Air was getting through there. Now running great. Upon thinking about it, at one time I found one cylinder bolt not tight. I didn't think much about it, just tightened it down. Probably the cylinder was just loose enough to allow the pressure, vaccume cycle to blow out part of the gasket. Took me awhile to find it. Just though I would share this as it might save others aggravation.

Thanks. It's good to hear a positive outcome. These kinds of problems can be a rear bear.

It wasn't spewing fuel and oil everywhere in the area of the blown gasket? Black crud/dirt buildup on the motor is generally a good sign of trouble. They should run pretty clean and dry for the most part. -Al

Yes there was some oil on the outside of the engine but I couldn't tell where it was coming from until I removed the cylinder. Took me a long time to figure it out. Some of us are slower than others.
