BME 44 & 50 Same mount Dimensions???
I have a Aeroworke 29% Edge with a bme 44 on it but have alwaya wanted more power for verticle climb out of a hover . I juse bought a Greatplanes Pitts and am thinking of putting the 44 on it and getting a 50cc for the 540 Edge . Does the BME 50CC bolt right in same mount and have all the same outer dimensions? Or if I have to modify the mount should I get the DA50??? I had the DA 100 and loved it but the BME 44 has been a Great eng. also So Please give youy input . Thanks, J.R.Ross

Thanks, J.R.Ross I think the main difference is that the head of the 50 is bored out more than the 44, making the 50 slightly lighter, and slightly more powerful... I'm not a BME expert and could be way off. Good luck! |
RE: BME 44 & 50 Same mount Dimensions???
I have the 50 and I do believe they are the same mount dimension.

RE: BME 44 & 50 Same mount Dimensions???
I did exactly as you are planning on doing on an 29% Edge. It had the 44 and I switched to the 50.
Mounting is EXACTLY the same. I have the hangar 9 aluminum mount so it was just a matter of unbolting the 4 bolts and swaping engines. Same should be true if you have the GP mount. Other than that you'll be pleasantly suprised with how much more power you'll have now. Even on the break in mix! Take care, Stratos.- |
RE: BME 44 & 50 Same mount Dimensions???
Thank you all for your replies , It is a lot easier to unbolt and bolt rathet than to modify. I just needed to know if it would fit, Thanks again , J.R.ROSS

ORIGINAL: edge_fanatic I think the main difference is that the head of the 50 is bored out more than the 44, making the 50 slightly lighter, and slightly more powerful... the 44 was echo's attempt to get a bit more power from a their 39cc engine while the 50 is a totally different design that offers not only a lot more power but also more strength dave |
RE: BME 44 & 50 Same mount Dimensions???
Dave put the question back in my mind with his comment that the BME 50 is a different ENG. . Dose it have the same mounting dimensions and lenght from back to prop hub ? I would like to remove the BME 44 and just bolt in the BME 50 no firewall mods or anything. I hope someone can tell me for sure it is , J.R.Ross

RE: BME 44 & 50 Same mount Dimensions???
How can I put this any clearer than that?
BME 44 and BME 50 have the same mounting dimensions. I did the same switch on the same plane you wanna do and it was an unbolt and bolt back in affair. That's all you need to know. I guess it's hard to trust a stranger but I'd say it anyway: TRUST ME ON THIS!! :-) On the other issues about weight and if it's the same engine or not I think Dave stated the obvious: They are different engines [X(] One is a 44cc and the other a 50cc engine. Other than that they mount the same, the carb and the throttle arm is on the same position (you won't need to do any mods on your throttle servo/linkage) and the prop bolts the same way. I don't remember If I had to slide the engine back or forth on the mount but if I did It was certainly very very slight. The whole switch took me about 10 minutes. Ok.. call me slow;) The 50 is about 6ozs heavier with pits muffler and ignition included. I did the comparison on my digital food scale while I was doing the switch. I hope this helps, Stratos.- |

RE: BME 44 & 50 Same mount Dimensions???
sorry guys! i was just commenting on the weight/design issue. did not mean to contradict the statement made by stratos regarding compatibility. my only experience with these two engines is in the saw shop.
like the BME site says, this engine was meant to replace the 44 in planes that need more power so i'd bet that they took things like hub length and mounting into consideration. dave |
RE: BME 44 & 50 Same mount Dimensions???
What about the Muffler? I have a 44 & am planning to replace it with a 50, Can I keep the same 44 Pits muffler for the 50? Are the mounting dimensions the same? any performace difference?

RE: BME 44 & 50 Same mount Dimensions???
would anyone have figures on the weight of the bme 44 and 50 with batteries ignition and pitts muffler. thanks:D I'm building a CMP/GSP Katana with wing area of abt 992 sq. in. and came across this engine. I was originally intending to use a Brison 2.4 but with the figures posted on BME's website on the 44, it looks like that the 44 might come out lighter.
