Inteligent or "stupid" glow drivers?
 

I have a Saito 182 TD ( twin head and carb), and want to use a glow driver with it.

I'm not familiar with those "devises"...and saw in the magazines that an Intelligent Glow driver is in the market.

Are they really good?
Do they work properly?
Are they very susceptible to malfunction?

I was also looking for a glowdriver for my Saito 270 and a friend recommended the Precision Electronics driver. He has used one for a year with great success.

I have an 'intelligent' glow driver but, I have a 'stupid' one for backup and a panel cable to back that one up....

Same goes for things like electric fuel pumps. I had one fail at a contest and lost my first place position because I couldn't fuel my plane in time. :mad: Now I carry a spare manual pump and my fuel carrier for funfly's has a dedicated manual pump (so I have three when at funfly contests)

Murphy loves my support equipment, especially at contests. I once had a starter quit on me when I was in a heli funfly... try as you might, you just can't handprop a heli. :(

I saw them, but my concern is about which type is best to use, the intelligent or the regular one?

On my 182Td I use the McDaniels. I set it up to turn on at about 1/3 throttle, that way I can relight without having to drop to idle. I like the concept of the "intelligent" driver and will probably go with that for my next one.

The intelligent glow driver I am familiar is mfg by Nelson.
Both McDaniel and Nelson are very good companys with very good records.

I have the Nelson intelligent glow driver. I mounted this with a manual on /off kill switch. When you get ready to fly you first test the radio and see that all the control surfaces are OK, including the throttle. I then hit the glow driver switch to the on position and start the engine. There is a small light, which shows you that the glow driver is feeding the glow plug. Start the engine and go. The glow driver only comes on when needed based on the motors needs not the throttle setting. I like it.

I was looking at Nelson web site. For twin engines they recomend to use 2 glow driver, not one. US$49.95 x 2 = :(
Any ideas??
