newbie needs help :(
Hey,
I'm fairly new to the forums and such...and i see that this is a great community which might be able to help me. Lets by chance say i have a 18cc engine (from a featherlite weedwacker) and would like to convert the pull start, to a push button start. Basically instead of pulling to get the motor started, just press a button and it will start the engine for you. The engine is not hooked up to anything, im just wondering if it is possible to start the engine. Also if it is possible, i would like to attempt to make this starter. If anyone has info or such please help me out. Thank you for your time. |
RE: newbie needs help :(
this could be a pretty tricky project. In order to start a gas engine with a push button, you need an electric motor big enough to turn the motor over quickly. This in turn takes a pretty large battery to drive the electric motor. Then you need some mechanism to physically couple the electric motor to the gas engine. this coupling must become uncoupled after the engine starts. So you have to have some kind of clutch or one-way drive bearing to accomplish this.

In other words.....I have a spare motor that runs off 12 volts dc. So what do you mean that it has to be one way bearing? Like...would a belt or gears from the motor work? Can you show me a diagram thank you.

RE: newbie needs help :(
Could I use a switch which switchs polarity? In this case...press one switch to start the motor to crank the shaft then press the second button right away to go backwards?
I might not be clear...but does anyone have a clue/idea on how a 12 volt motor DC could be capable of an electric starter replacing the pull start? |
RE: newbie needs help :(
What If....I Attach a Spring to the Gear that is connected to the Pull Shaft? That way...When i press the switch for 1 sec it moves the Shaft all the way to the end and then the spring takes its action and releases it back?
