Anybody using an RCS engine

I'm considering getting an RCS 140 or 180. Anybody using one of these engines? What do you think of it? How's the noise on the pitts muffler RCS sells with the engine?

TIA,

I can recomend the 180...but, after Mike raises the rpm limit...
I had it on a Big Chaos and it pulled it like their wasn't anything behind it...

Break it in on Penzoil for air cooled motors then go to synthetic...
Had a upright BCM mufler (MOKI 180 is the same) and it passed the club DB levels with a 18x10 Zinger
plane weighted in right at 15 lbs....
Hope this helps...
Cause' it was happy with mine till the Great Turf God got it...

Rcs

I've got a RCS 1.40 a bud had it on a10-11lb Extra and it flew it well, Ive only bench run it, a lil fudgin with the needle balance and it roars will turn a APC 16x8 around 9000rpm and it was rich. The Pitts is a bit loud at low rpms but tones down over 1/3 throttle settings. What were you thinking of hanging it on?

airplane for RCS 140

Well, first would probably be an old, tired Midwest Giant Ugly Stick I use for engine and radio test (had everything from a ST 2000 to a Centermark twin on the front end). After it's broken in and I'm comfortable with it, I've got a Pica 1/5 Mustang ('bout half done) or an IMP ME-109 (NIB), or I might put it on a big scratch built Chipmunk I have (currently flying with a ST 3000 on ignition). Had slated both the kits for big Tigres, but with the shift to China for the ST factory, parts are getting too hard to get and I'm slowly losing my love for Tigers.

RCS in a 60 size P51...

All,
Not to switch the subject or step on a thread but... Has anyone considered or actually put a RCS140 in a 60 size TF p51? I know Evan Q put one in his190 and I remember seeing a person post a question on this matter... If these engines are pulling around 10 pound models, that would be what a TF 60 size plane is... Comments? Thank you.

RCS 1.40

I've been flying a RCS 1.40 on a Hangar 9 Edge at 12 lbs RTF.
The motor is totally sweet....
The pitts muffler is very nice sounding, deep throaty, not whiny like the smaller two strokes.

I'm running three different brands of 16x8, and 17x8 props around 7500-8000 rpms and pulling the Edge around like it's meant to be..

I love being able to fly this size plane for less than 10 cents a flight and having the power to tractor through manuvers.

Honestly, the 1.40 is rated at about 15-16 lbs thrust...so a .60 size would be a TIGHT Fit!! and bring up your wing loading considerably. Now if your talking a 80 inch world models p-51 that would be sweet....with very light loading. Look for at least 1000 square inches of wing area to put this motor on.

Hope that helps.

seems to me that the rcs 140 or 180 would be too small for a pica 1/5 scale mustang. i have a g-62 for the one i have under way. i would look at the world gs but only with at least the 180, which is 30cc as i recall- but i would really think that you want a zdz40 or above for even the world gs. i would not be happy with a warbird that didn't fly strong.

Guys, The rcs140 is an awesome little engine but its definately too small to go into the WM mustang or the 1/5 pica mustang. Its absolutely perfect for any of the .60 size warbirds like the top flights. It weighs the same as most 120 4 strokers and the added weight of the ignition battery and module is more than offset by the reduction in fuel needs. I used to fly my 120s with at least 16 oz of fuel to get a 10 min flight. We can all figure out that translates to lots o coin in fuel costs. The rcs only needs a 10oz tank to go 15 min and the tank can be placed over the CG to get better weight distribution. RCS offers a rear exhaust version that is perfect for even the slimmest noses of inline warbirds. All you have to do is come up with some sort of muffler that wont protrude. I used the muffler from a saito 180 on the rear of mine in the FW190. Im up to around 70+ flights on my fw190 with the rcs and it gets stronger every time I fly it. Currently its turning 9500 on an apc 16/8, really flies the crud out of the little Dora.

evan- have you tried multi blade props on the 140? i have been toying with trying a 4 blade in a hangar 9 arf i just bought- and i would like to try for the 4 blade. maybe an apc 13x10, and was wondering about possible engines. i'm sure a 2 blade would give better performance, but i was thinking about how great the 4 blade would look if i could find the right engine for it. if it would fly even fairly good i would consider it, but i do want good strafing runs etc.

multi blades

Ed, I flew the FW190 with a 3 blade graupner 15/8 for awhile until I broke a blade off in a hard landing. I switched to the apc because the graupners are hard to find in my area. The 3 blader was more than adequate though and was still real fast. I think it should be able to turn the apc 4 blader easily as long as it is sized right. A 13/10 4 blader might be just the right size although you would have to try it out first and see.

thanks evan- i will look at the dimensions on their site to see if the 140 will fit in the engine area on this plane

Hey s3nfo, We are putting the 180 on Zirioli B-25`s and will be using 18X8 bolly 3blade props. Our planes (4 of them) will weight in at app. 30# and the way the motor pulls on the test stand we may have been able to use 140`s. But whats a little extra power when you need it. Check out our
planes at www.skunkworks.rcplanet.com

Steve,

That's some shop you've got there, and to think I have to build big airplanes in a small corner of the garage (Oh, the price I pay for living in Southern California and flying all year in shorts & T-shirt). B-25's look like they're coming together nicely, one looked like it was in Navy Blue????

Thanks for the good word on the RCS's, Brad, here in SD made me an offer on the one he has and I'm gonna take it.
