Range-testing with DA50

Hi,

I wonder if it is necessary to thruttle up the engine (middle or high RPMs) during the test. If there are interferences, will it only show up during middle/high RPMs, but not during idle?

Thanks --NonstopRC

Ignition noise checks should be made at several engine RPM's, idle, mid-speed, and full throttle.

The possible interference may be caused by another problem, vibration.

No, just make sure you have it running and the range doesn't get reduced.

I called DA and they think let the engine run in idle is sufficient.

SORRY, I have to disagree, I have seen RF occur at mid and high range and not show up at idle. I have had it happen to me and I witnessed a pilot coming close to loosing a Patty due to vibration at mid range and not at idle. Muffler bolt-loose muffler pipe- IG box- Spark Plug wire worn and rubbing against the engine- throttle rod- even traced one down to a cracked crystal that would not show it's ugly head until the plane was in the air and the throttle was cut back or wide open.
Better to be safe than sorry and it don't take that much time to check it at all speeds.

I respectfully disagree. A bad receiver crystall sometimes will only show up with the higher vibration frequency of a higher throttle setting.

Besides how can it hurt to do a full throttle range check.

Yep,I've seen it too.My friend took off & all of the sudden the plane was doing the wildest 3D you've ever seen...OVER THE PITS.Guys didn't know which way to go. Somebody yelled "throttle down!" & he regained control.
