G26 Problem

I'm having a problem with a new G26 on an Ultra Stick Lite. Both are brand new and flew for the first time today, however the engine didn't run good in the air. It loses power and actually died twice in the air. In level flight or descending it runs bad, climbing it picks up power. On the ground it runs like a champ. 7500rpm with a 16x10 prop and idles good. After the second dead stick landing, the fuel line was full of fuel without any air bubbles. The engine started on the third flip and ran like a champ again. There is the black oily "slim" on the bottom of the fuselage.

I did a search on RCU and am getting the impression that the engine may be running a little rich. Does this sound like the problem? If so, which screw do I adjust? The engine goes from idle to full throttle without any hesitation. Before doing the search, I tried richening up the high speed needle slightly, and it made the problem in the air worse. Also the rpm's dropped down a couple of hundred rpm on the ground. The velocity stack that came with the engine is installed.

Any comments would be appreciated.

I would recommend you read and follow the instruction in the Zenoah owner's manual, part number T2075-93110-209..It was in the box..Page 9, bottom of the page...

RCIGN1

I set the screws to the recommendations in the box. Actually, they are both set at 1 1/4 turns out.

By the way, thanks for the guidance on changing the prop stud. Got the replacement part from Horizon yesterday and followed your instructions for replacing it.

Recommendations are just that, if yours doesn't run well change the settings until it does.
A 17 or 18 inch prop will have more thrust, and will run like it says in the manual, 7,000 to 8,500 in the air...An 18-6 Mejzlik will turn at least 8000 on the ground with the stock muffler..Very good thrust, if the landing gear is long enough..A 17-8 wood prop works well also.....:D

Well I have one on a 110" Rascal, We have tryed every thing in the book and it still looses power in the air and I have to adjust the high needle every flight. BUMMER !!!!

RE: G26 Problem

In the group of four guys I fly with there are five G26's and they all run great. Not a lemon in the bunch. Just following the Zenoah instructions. Mabey it's the Calif. gas. Amsoil 80:1, APC props, 8500 to 9100 rpm's depending on the prop size. Our engines seem to prefer 17/6 and 17/8's.
