Anyone know anything about DA's new 200 CC engine?
Four cylinder I believe and not too far away from becoming available.

I've not hear anything more about the 200 in a while. I have heard about an improvement to another of their large engines though. What about the 75!!!! Ahhhhhhhh!

Dave won't release any info about the 75 untill he has 200 of them sitting on the shelf for sale...
Don't blame him...these days there is too much bad press about "launching" a product that seems to be made from unobtanium and vaporware.
I do however feel that the 75 is getting pretty darn close to being released....No fact, just a feeling.

This was about a year ago, but Chip Hyde said that the 200 had a slight problem and it needed to be addressed before going to production. Besides they are never going to sell half as many 200's as they will 150's and on down. They will sell 20 75cc engiens for ever 200 they sell. Simply not enough guys out there who can afford one and are willing to drop that kind of cash on a model engine and plane. However there are a TON who will a 75cc engine. I being one of them. I imagine after the 75 is selling good the 200 might me gone back and looked at. There just simply isn't that many 50% planes flying in comparison to smaller ones. I wish DA would make a light weight 25-30cc as it would be perfect for my 1/4 scale stuff like my Katana. If they could they could sell them by the truckload. I sure like my DA 50. A 25-30cc lighweight, powerful, reliable gasser would blow a hole in the market. I just wish they would look in that direction as everything they have done has been a success. It would get tons of people into gas who never consider the bigger engines due to intimidation, cost and expense of the aircraft.

I make a 26cc lightweight conversion, 2 1/2 lbs, powerful, relatively inexensive (?)...It's called a Zenoah G26..I don't have anyone beating down my doors or buying truckloads...
As for a 25cc DA, don't hold your breath..It would cost almost as much to make one that size as it does to make the 50, except for a slight reduction in the cost of the aluminum for the case..Machining time would be slightly less, but carbs and ignitions all cost about the same, regardless of size..Cylinders and pistons ? buying in quantites of 500 or more to get a good price is $$$$$$...Unless Dave wins the lottery I wouldn't hold my breath or engage in idle speculation....:D

Even thought you might sell 1 da 200 for every 10 or so DA 75s, you could still profit more from a 200. If it was a $500 profit selling a da 200 where as the 75 is going to have to be marked down a lot because of the ZDZ 80 (another reason to not bother with a 75) say $200. (I have no idea how much they actually make per engine, just totalling guessing). They would have to sell 3 DA 75s for every 1 DA 200 where it would be a lot cheaper and easier on them to make a single 200 rather then 3 da 75s. Its cost vs mass production and I dont recall the exact algorithm used to get maximum profit for minimum product.

I have Zenoah. What part of it is light??? It is over 50 oz. What part of that is light for its size. My YS 140 weighs 32 oz and has much more power than it does. Now I am willing to take a hit a little on weight for the convience of gas, but planes that size are already so weight oriented anyway. You made a good point in the cost issue. 3W makes one that size but it is only like $30 cheaper than a 50cc.

I figure the DA 75 will cost a little over the ZDZ 80 but as long as it is real close I don't think people will mind paying for it since they get the service of DA with it, but not that much more since the ZDZ is a great engine. No doubt about it.

A converted G26 gasser is 40 oz.Mejzlik 18-06, 9000 rpm....
Define much more...
If we want to compare glow to glow, a glow G26 (Mejzlik 18-6, 9600 rpm)..is 32 oz..Cost would be about $300..How much is a YS140 ?
I have no way to try the same props used by the YS140, don't use 'em...
YS140 sport, $438.97 from Central Hobbies website...RPM to 9000, weight 33oz, fuel 20/20..
Don't know what glow fuel I used for testing the G26, it was about 5 years old....
I could turn the fins down on the G26 to make it lighter.....

Thats the word, but probably wont be out for a while. There is nothing wrong with the current version. If you want light, get a bme.

It is my understanding that the 200 is a twin not a 4 cylinder.

Seems like the photo of the one in Chip Hydes TOC bipe had four cylinders.

It is, he won the TOC with the backup to the original prototype of the 4 cylinder...Something happend to the original, so they put the backup in the plane...There WILL be a 4 cylinder 200cc...Unless you have a better source than Dave himself....

From a reliable source. They are still working on the prototype for the 75. The complete design of all the parts has not been finalized.

I thought chip's bipe had the 3W 212 4 cyl. That was around a year or two ago. The last I heard was that he was running a 3W 200 twin in it. Now I could be wrong, I'm no expert, but that's what I'm aware of.

You can use the original carb if you can drill out the fuel passages slightly.....A WT499 carb comes with the glow G23 and works without modifications on gas OR glow fuel..Walbro doesn't make a carb specifically for glow engines..The 499 is used on some other Zenoah engines....

I was not looking for an argument. I thought I was told that they were looking at doing a twin but maybe I miss heard him. I even remember thinking that it would be a hastle to come up with a new cylinder and piston verses using what they already have.
