carb problems

Recently traded for a used G-62. The walbro carb is impossible to set the low end needle. Acts like it is rich then smooths out and speeds up and dies. I have dis-assembled it and flushed with carb cleaner. All three transitions ports at the base of the butterfly flowed fine. The only thing I can think of is a slight vacumn leak somewhere. Anyone with any other ideas?

The first G62 Walbros were HDA 48..Later models were HDA 48 C and 48 D..The first ones had a problem with transition and idle..The C and D models are identical to the 48, with the exception of a fuel nozzle inside and the length of the throttle hookup arm....If you have one of the early 48 carbs it may need the nozzle replaced with the later version..Otherwise look for a leak or stiff diaphragms...

Thanks rcign: I have now dis-assembled again and put in a set of gaskets. I noted when putting it back on the engine a bit of sideway play in the throttle shaft when not seated at the closed position. I shimmed the throttle arm so there is no movement during opening as before, I plan on trying it as soon as the house wakes up! Again-thanks for the feed back
