Having Problems with DA50 ?
Hi!
Does everyone who owns a DA50 suffer from the flamout problems when doing snaps & blenders ? Also, for those DA50 owners, if you where to buy a new 50cc engine, would you get another DA50, or would you look into another brand ? |
RE: Having Problems with DA50 ?
If your experiencing flame out during snaps, flat spins, or blenders, I would look at the idle position first. Do you perform the snap by going to quick idle ? I use to have that problrm with several brands of engines, so now I increase the idle trim about 3 clicks after take off, then pull it down before landing. Keeps the fuel flowing to the carb. Try that before you throw away the engine.
By the way, I don't ownd a DA, never have, probably never will, but that worked on my ZDZ's, Sachs, and Brisons. May be the solution, may not. |
RE: Having Problems with DA50 ?
your idle is dropping to low. carb arm is spring loaded, when you snap, whalla! Idle goes to zilch. try raising it up after airborne. Yes, I would buy another DA, in fact, I think I will, where is that phone?

Check your low end needle. It may be set too rich causing the motor to load up at low throttle during these manuevers. I had a 3W 75 do the same thing until I tweeked the low end a bit.

I had problems with mine but now after 4 gallons its getting much better. Great engines and produce a lot of power. Yes I would buy another one.

RE: Having Problems with DA50 ?
I have two DA 50s, my first one has serial #0015, I had such good luck with it a year later I bought another #877. Like the previous post suggest after taking off raise the idle about 400 or 500. Mine idles around 1550, so in the air I have it turning around 2K. If you have a 9C Futaba its easy to do.
My second 50 did go thru a stage of dieing if I turned it to hard at the end of runway or if the landing was a little rough. This went away after about the third gallon of gas. I will admit you can hear it stumble just slightly when it pops into the first rotation of a blender, but it never has quit. Also, at 4 gallons I went ahead and switched it over to 100:1 Amsoil, slightly adjusted the needles again and could tell instantly it ran smoother. Dont give up on it, you will get there. And if they ever come out with the 75, the checks in the mail. Gary |
RE: Having Problems with DA50 ?
No problems with flameout whatsoever, in over 160 flights. Every problem I have ever read about with regards to your question were fixed with a couple hundred more RPM at idle.
Hardly a reason to switch brands. |
