Engine suggestions for Laser 2000
 

Hi All.

I just ordered a Super Kraft Laser 2000 ARF from Chief Aircraft. This is my first large plank and would like some input on engine selection.
I believe the plane weighs 16-18lbs. Span is 87"

I'm looking for unlimited vertical performance, w/o adding tons of lead in the tail.
I'm considering the BME 50cc.

Another convert from the air beaters???

An 18lb. bird and a BME 50 an unlimited vertical don't go together...

You may find a 15lb. model capable of this with the BME 50...

Your going to have to step up the engine size. At least a 3.7 or 60cc engine.

A few choices come to mind. I prefer the Taurus Engines... Lightweight, power, transition and simplicity second to none...
Taurus offers a 3.7 or 4.2 in this range.

ZDZ offers a rear intake 60 that is capable. Some like em some don't. These appear to work work best when matched with a tuned exhaust system.

Nah,I'm still doing the 3D thing with heli's. Looking for something a little less stressful,though.

Thank you for you input on engines. I'll see if Taurus has something in my price range w/o a months wait.

I had no idea it is so tough trying to figure out which engine to buy. With heli's,theres 30 and 60 size. No brainer :o

With this thing If I go too small I have a unuseable combo. Too large and it'll cause havok on the aiframe or require ballist.

How does a newbe figure out what's best for his/her combo?

A friend suggested I build the plane,then throw it on a CG machine to find how much weight will be needed up front to balancer her out.

I have decided it needs a 60cc for my needs.

hey roy, just test flew my laser 2000 last weekend
fox 2.4 for power and it is perfect balance dead on the spar. as for power, beyond plenty for all imac and mild 3d, will hover just below 1/2 throttle and is so slow on landing it is unbelievable. kevin

I broke down last night and ordered a 3W-60

Hopefully everything will work out ;)
I did some measuring and I'll be lucky if the 24/10 clears the ground on roll-out.

Did you hear that Perry K sold off his ST2's in favor of 80's?

Try to come down for the Jamboree the 16/17/18. Jason K is suppose to be wringing out his 80/91 Furys.
