need help with first gas engine
i have a zenoah g-26 engine that is mounted on a sig rascal 110. it seems to run ok.(bought everything used), but it leaves a black sticky residue on the plane. the settings on the carb are a little rich, but not excessive. is there too much oil in the gas. the guy i bought this from gave me a gas can with the mixture already in it, and said this was what he had been using. he says the engine is new, with about one half gallon thru it. again, it seem to run well, although it is a little hard to start. i have to use a starter, it wont start by hand. sorry for being so winded, but this is my first gasser and need help. thanks.

RE: need help with first gas engine
Some black residue is normal with the 32:1 brake in mix. As the engine wares in the black stuff will disappear. After 4-6 gallons consider switching to a synthetic oil. Also you might have the needles a tad rich.

RE: need help with first gas engine
thanks for the help mike. i am switching to gas because i was tired of the mess from glow. when the gas engine started leaving a mess as well, it made start to re-think things. i am glad to hear it will go away.

RE: need help with first gas engine
Have no fear, the mess will lesseen as the run time on the motor increases, and will eventually disappear. If possible, you should enquire from the person you purchased the combo from what type of oil and what is the mix ratio of the fuel he gave you.
Nowadays there is a popular trend of thought that breaking in a motor on a petroleum based oil and then switching to a synthetic oil is a waste of time, though it is felt that the practice never hurt any. Using regular 87 octane unleaded gas and a good quality 2 stroke oil specifically designed for air cooled motors and mixed as recommended by the manufacturer is usually the way to go. |
RE: need help with first gas engine
If you do switch to synthetic Moble1MX2T is about the best.

As well check your spark plug. Good luck! |
RE: need help with first gas engine
as i ask this question, bear in mind that this is my first gasser. why do we "break in" these engines, but when we buy a new weed eater or something similar, we dont bother. thanks again.

RE: need help with first gas engine
We do brake in weedes and such.....note the recommended oil on a new weed whacker and what is recommended on you G26 is the same stuff and mix %.
Its after brake in where we deveate from them. |
RE: need help with first gas engine
Because we started with glow engines that NEED to be broken in....Old habits are hard to break..:D
Direct quote from the Zenoah owner's manual.."No specific break in is required..The engine is gradually broken-in as it is used and the output is also gradually increased" The engineers know more about their product than a bunch of old fogies (myself included) on an engine forum... More from the manual.. Oil mixing ratio is 25-40 to 1 The mixing ratio is according to the OIL RECOMMENDATION..(capital letters mine, for emphasis) |
