Brison 2.4 Problem

I am having a problem with my Brison 2.4. It starts easily will run for a little while and then quit. I have been throught the carb, replaced the diaphram and screen as well as some of the gaskets. The gap between the magnets is set right. I am using new fuel. The plug seems to be in good shape. I did find some junk plugging the the carb at the end of the fuel nipple. Is it possible there is some junk in the carb that I haven't been able to find? Any suggestions as to what to do next would really be appreciated.

Thanks

Steve

How bout the fuel filter? I had the same problem and the ignition/coil in good shape?

Steve, couple of questions, is it a new engine or has it run well in the past? Can you see the fuel line and it it full? Does it seem hot when it dies? What do you have to go thru to get it restarted?

bentgear,

It is a well run engine that has been dependable. I can see the fuel line. It is picking up the fuel and drawing it to the carb easily. It does not run long enough to get hot. To restart, it will sometimes start with just a couple of prop flips, sometimes I have to re-choke, but it will always restart fairly quickly. I am really baffled!!!

Are you certain that the needles aren't set too lean? It's quite possible to have some crud in the carb that's partially blocking a passage.

Assuming you put the carb back together correctly, how's the spark? Is it consistent? If you have spark and it has gas it should run and keep running. Pull the barrel off and have a look at the piston and rings and also check the bearings for excess play.

If you remove the cast carb cover with the single, central fastening screw, there is a strainer underneath with quite fine mesh. It needs to be checked and cleaned every once in a while.

I think Silversurfer is looking in the right direction. If you have to re-choke, it has to be going lean on you for some reason. ie needles or curd in the carb/fuel line/air leak.
The reason I say this is because your exact problem has happened to me, needles were off.

I have replaced the screen you mention. The engine ran fine at the current needle settings. I have not messed with them. When is started giving me trouble it did it very suddenly. I agree with several of the other posts. I think there is some kind of crud in the carb that I have not been able to find. Are there any suggestions as to where I might look?

Thanks

I know this may sound too simple ,but.....
Replace the spark plug with a "NEW" plug . dont bother with cleaning or regapping the old one , just replace it .
I have had this happen on my 3.2 , I runs great then i let it set a while (months ) the oil residue saturates the plug and it wont burn off , it doesnt look flooded
and it shows good spark when checked but wont fire properly , it will fire enough to tease you then it quits .
No guaranty that this is your particular concern but it sounds very familiar and a plug is a cheap , easy thing to try ..

Thanks! I will give that a try. What you are describing makes sense. My engine has been on the shelf for about two years. I did pull the plug out and check it. It seemed to be working well. I will put a new plug in it and give it a whirl. If it works I will let you know.

Thanks

You hit the nail right on the head. It took me a couple of days, but I finally tracked down a new plug, checked the gap and put it in the engine. It fired up easily and ran like a champ. It will idle at 1800 and will turn a Top Flite Power Point 20X8 at 7400. Transition from prolonged idle is clean and very quick. I am looking forward to flying my new Giant Su-Do-Khoi.

Thanks

Steve
