Tuned Pipe Coupler Material

What type tubing is used as coupler between header/pipe on gas engines?
Won't the blue silicone stuff for glow melt in a gas application?
What is a good source for the right material? I need 7/8" ID.

RE: Tuned Pipe Couper Material

MACS only sells up to 3/4". I think it's all blue? The 3/4" was supposed to be good for 62cc.

Enjoy,

Jim

McMaster Carr -- http://www.mcmaster.com/ -- has silicone and teflon tubing rated to 500˚, wide range of sizes, reasonable prices, excellent service.

RE: Tuned Pipe Coupler Material

I have been successfully using a High Temp Exhaust Coupling sold by Octura Model Marine Supplies for connecting tuned pipes to headers on 2-strokes. It doesn't last forever, but it outlasts anything else I've tried. It appears to be a sort of red rubber silicone that has about 4 layers of fiberglass woven reinforcement imbedded in it. They sell it in 3 inch lengths, and local hobby shops who sell stuff for model boats usually will carry it or can get it. It is available in inside diameter (inches) sizes 1/2; 5/8; 3/4; 7/8; and 1 inch. Their part numbers are OC16HTEC, OC20HTEC, OC24HTEC,OC28HTEC, OC32HTEC.

I think the part numbers are the I. D. in thirty-seconds of an inch and HTEC stands for High Temperature Exhaust Coupling.

You acan find it listed on http://www.pirespreto.com/octura_catalog.htm.

I couldn't find a web page for Octura
but - their address is
Octura Models, Inc.
7351 N. Hamlin Ave.
Skokie, Ill 60076

Contact Desert Aircraft or Aircraft International and ask them for some Teflon couplers. Both places have them in 22mm (7/8") and 25mm (1") diameters.
