MVVS compared to DA, BME?
How does the MVVS 116 compare to DA 100 AND BME 110 as far as power and weight and size?

The BME is the most compact at 10.5" plug cap to plug cap. The DA is larger, and the MVVS is larger still at over 12.5" plug cap to plug cap. The BME is also the lightest at 3.90#. The DA is next at 5.8# and the MVVS is heaviest at 6.75#. All weights are without ignition. Power-wise, the BME is stronger than the DA, and I havent heard reports on the MVVS performance.

As soon as I get my 116cc going, I will give reports. So far the only numbers I have heard was 6300 with a 27x12 3 blade.

Yes -but which prop is it?
I have found over 1000 rpm difference in different manufacturers props Just like the BME is stronger than the DA etc.. Unless same test -same prop is conducted -by same people -all of this is just guesswork. I have an 80 on a pipe that out powers many 100's . What does that prove nothing -because the test is NOT the same setup . |

Sorry Dick, didnt mean to leave you hanging. The prop is an engel 27x12, whichs is about the same as a fuchs 27x12 3 blade. It also ran 6100 with a mej 30x10 2 blade.

The engel is narrow bladed. Last week could compare a Menz 20*12 with a Engel 20*12. All conditions the same, just switch the prop.

MVVS 116 Engel 27x12 5.900 U/min (after 20min of total runtime) ZDZ 100 24 x 12 5.800 DA-100 25x12 5.800 On the other side it seems that there are some heat problems and the MVVS is currently on a test bench to sort this out. |

boy-that is an apples -oranges bunch of comparisons .
My ZDZ turns 6800 Now guess the prop. Seriously -this does look like a nice engine - it will be interesting to see how it proves out . |

One thing I have learned on RCU is not to believe or shall I say place confidence in any manufactures numbers nor any individuals numbers, and not to expect any particular performance numbers on any engine. There are only a handful, no not even a handful of individual out there that can, have, and will take the time and put forth the effort to compare performance on an engine under controlled conditions. Even then, as Dick will tell you there are variables that effect performance.
I have two ZDZ-80s one ZDZ-100 two Brisons, and a couple of Zenos. Love them all, I can get OVER 1000rpm difference on either ZDZ-80 by switching the manufacturer of the same size prop and exhaust systems. Like Dick, I have one ZDZ-80 that I promise you will out pull 99% of all 100s. It is all in accordance with the Prop manufacturer, Prop wood species, pitch,(and I will promise you if you get down to the nitty-gritty and measure two wood props from the same manufacturer they will not be the same, length, pitch, thickness; sanding, sealing, cutting,quality control, that particular day), exhaust, fuel, and fuel, mix. If you like the engine, it's reliable, it performance meets your needs, Its a good engine. |

Roger on the differences between same size props. My Fuji BT-50SA
1) Top Flight (wood, square ended blade) 20x10 ==> ~6200rpm 2) Mejzlik (carbon fiber) 20x10 ==> ~7000rpm 3) Bolly (carbon fiber) 20x10 ==> ~7800rpm NOTE: I was running the Top Flight during my initial break-ins and have not tried it since changing from 25:1 oil ratio to 40:1 oil ratio. Also more refined adjustments have been made since. I'm still shy of 2 gallons total run time and I'm still getting oily black residue from exhaust, so the engine is still very much in a break-in mode. |

Seems that this was not clear, all measurements where made using engel three blade props. Since we have quite serve noise restrictions all engines are equipped with Krumscheid or Weiershäuser Muffler or tuned pipes (but this is unlikely). Krumscheid Mufflers have been used on the MVVS.
Oh, differency from altitude can be neglected over here... |
