Looking for a small Quiet engine?

I just ran my new Roto 35 with a Mejlik 18-10 3 blade prop and stock muffler. I checked the sound level with our db meter and was delightfully surprised, 94dba at 9'. Our clubs current policy does not allow gas motors because of the old noise issues. I have been trying to have that rule changed to say that any plane cannot be over a set db level, gas or glow. I just proved that a gas motor can be quiet. My Saito 100 tested at 96dba.

RE: Looking for a small Quiet engine?

rc-sport,

I have a Roto35vi and a bambula 20X8 at 6600 on 93 octane 50:1 using Motul 800 and see very similiar results at 93dB. The muffler is the Supersonic from RCShowcase.

My OS91FS is probably the quietest thing I have ever heard at 84dB and my YS110 is louder than both at 96dB. The only thing gas I have heard that is almost as quiet as the Roto is the Zenoah G26 conversion from RCIGN1 and the slimline pitts at 95dB turning a Mejlik 18X6

Just out of curiosity, what rpm are you getting with that 3 blade Mejlik with what gas/oil mix. I'm considering one for my Cap232 to get the "look" plus keep the pull I need.

After 5 minutes of running I was getting 6000 rpms, I think it will go up a bit after it breaks in. I'm running a 40:1 mix.
