New to gas question. HELP!

I have a 27% Edge 540 with an OS BGX-1 on it. I was thinking of going to a gas engine.
I've been trying to do my homework on them all. The new Evolution are looking to be the best
all around. I'm looking at the 58GX, the dimension's are very close to the BGX-1 except the carb is in the rear. My question is this, can I drill a hole in the fire wall to allow the carb to go through? And will it still run properly? This will be the only way I can get away from having to cut the firewall off and move it back. I was thinking of building a small box around the carb and put a thin layer of epoxy on it to seal it off for the rest of the plane. I don't know if I need to do it or not. Does gas mess put the balsa just like nitro?

Thanks in advance for any help!
Brian

Gas is by far less messy than glow. There will be little, if any, exhaust residue after the engine is broken in. With the carb enclosed, there will be no raw gas spray out the throat, especially if you use a velocity stack. However, gas engines like to start "wet", with fuel actually dripping out of the carb. Gas proof the inside of the box and cut a drain slot or hole in the bottom.

If I put a hole in it should I put some fuel line in it and run it out of the bottom of the plane? My thinking is that this will allow me to see the gas run out and know that it is primed.

Slope the floor of the box forward, so that the fuel runs out the firewall.
