BME 50vsBME 44
Hello,
Does a BME 50 have a greater increase in power over a BME 44 then the displacement increase would indicate? Dose anyone know if there are port timing differences? I realize that the weight is about the same and carb size is the same. Dave |
RE: BME 50vsBME 44
I have seen a 44 run, and owned a 50. The 44 runs a 19x8 or 20x8, and the 50 turns a 22x8 or 22x10, significant difference in power.

RE: BME 50vsBME 44
I don't know if port timing was changed, I doubt it. The only difference is cubic displacemnt to the best of my knowledge. Simply put there is NO substitute for cubes...
Remember the BME 44/50 are basically Echo/Kiorsk chain saw engine shortblocks adapted to aero use by BME... |

RE: BME 50vsBME 44
the 44 and 50 may look similar but they aren't. the 44 is a bored and maybe stroked version of an older 39cc model while the 50 is a totally new design. echo has now added a bit more displacement to the original 50 too. and i'm not 100% sure but the above mentioned 39cc might also be a bored/stroked version of a 36cc...to lazy to look the info up though
the 44 also has a 12mm crank while the 50 is 15mm dave |

RE: BME 50vsBME 44
The 44 is also over a half pound lighter. If you are looking at putting it in a 13-14 pound plane, the 44 would be ideal and would keep the wingloading down.

RE: BME 50vsBME 44
Dave;
Gee I'm sorry, I did not take reading. I was using a mejslik 20-10 & just not getting the performance I needed on a 17lb edge. While at field a mate was using a BME 50 and had this BME 22-8 prop & he changed to a 22-10. I bought the 22-8 (BME prop)for $18. On a whim I put her on the 44 & had significantly better performance with the plane. Because it was a whim, I did not think to take rpm, but ear said it was not significantly lower. Hope this helps. ifshnee |
