Taurus Engines - Comments Please
One engine make I see very little about is the Taurus engine. I am shopping for a 50cc engine for my 27% World Models Ultimate and an seriously considering the Taurus 52. This is due in no small part to the rear bearing on the crankshaft, I think this is the way all engines should be made - am I on the right track ????

They are great running motors i have the 52 in a Edge 540. Very smooth running and no midrange burble like similar class motors.

RE: Taurus Engines - Comments Please
We bought a used Taurus 52 online. Put a MenzS 22-10 on it and it pulled it 63-6400. Cant say what the previous owner did but a call to Taurus found that the engine should pull 7000. We got a dozen flights or so before we thought it was down on power. During the process of checks and rechecks. Taurus personally called my home 2 times after thinking about the situation. With no improvement he told us to ship him the engine and he would stand by the previous warrantee. We are waiting for a return but in conclusion, Taurus went out of his way helping us troubleshoot this engine. Its exceptionally smooth and runs fine, its just not up on power. I think the problem was lack of previous owner knowledge, maybe a very lean run, or an initial set up problem. Being in the middle of this right know I will say Taurus is doing all it can for us on a 2nd hand motor. I'd buy a new Taurus in a second. They have treated us like DA would have maybe better, Walt

Absolutely excellent engines. They cost a little more than some, but give a little more to offset the difference. A very good choice in powerplants.

Will be buying more Taurus engines in the future. Pete |

I have had a Taurus 52 in a Lavochkin LA5 for about three years. Nearly 100 flights, never a problem.

I have a TS 52. Flew it on one short flight. DONT ASK. Just check RPM's Saturday on plane and got 6800 spinning a Menz 22x6. Engine is still basiclly new. I thought power was a little bit on the low side but I am going to run it some more before I call Bill. Just for your info a 3W50 also has the extra bearing in it.

I hope I have as good luck as everyone else because I'm going with the Taurus. Thanks for the replies.

I'll give you my opinon on the Taurus line of engines. Simply the best. If you doubt me, I defy you to find one negative comment on "Taurus" engines, anywhere on any thread. Name any other engine make that can make that statement. The 3.2 Taurus is as smooth as a twin cyl.

Taurus is a great engine, but you can't compare them to other munufactures as they have much higher numbers out there! |

Thanks for your comment but, I refer you to the taurus website. The have a full line of engines out including an 8.8 144cc twin, a 107cc twin, a 107cc inline twin, a 3.2 52cc, a 69cc, and a 72cc. There are simply not as many as other mfgs. because they are advertised simply by word of mouth. (The best of all advertising).

Can anyone give an idea of how much the 52 sells for?

ORIGINAL: Slyder Can anyone give an idea of how much the 52 sells for? You had best contact them yourself but they quoted me $629.00 SHIPPED to the lower 48 and it INCLUDES a HD wrap around muffler. I live in Canada so by the time I pay postage and the exchange we are talking close to $800.00 Cdn. but I'm going to take the plunge. I have tried to save money on "cheaper" things before and paid the price in the end. :D:D:D |
RE: Taurus Engines - Comments Please
I think that you can get one for around $600.00, with the Pitts style muffler. Tell Bill, Bob Laine, in GA, said you could get one for $600.00. You will love it.

RE: Taurus Engines - Comments Please
Mine was 615.00 (engine, spark plug, pitts muff, and ign) including shipping. I had CH upgrade the ignition to a Bosch resistor cap.

Sounds like enough people have chimed in, but I'll backup what everyone has said. A couple of years ago I used to be accused of being blindly biased on RCU because I was so effusive with my praise for Taurus, but as more people bought them and shared the same enthusiasm I was vindicated and people started to believe me when I said I was only so positive about them because I wanted other people to discover just how good they were. They've only gotten better since then.
BTW, the TS-52 only weighs a few ounces more than a DA-50. Definitely not even enough for someone to notice. |

Man this whole thing is impossible to believe. I think this is the first discussion I have been involved in, that went over 5 posts and someone didn't have something bad to say about something. Way to go ! I knew we could do it ! :D:D:D:D
