I'm curious to know if anyone out there is running the new 3W-157, and if they are, what they think of it?? I may be looking to get one, but I would love to hear a little feedback before I commit to it.

I won't have mine in the air till spring,but I bench ran the 3W 157 and a new ZDZ 160.Using the exact same prop and exact same exhaust the 3W 157 was 300 rpm stronger.

Very interesting and sounds pretty good. I'll be looking forward to hearing how it goes. I'm hoping they are as good as I've been hearing about them.

Dick I set up both engines using the same AMT pipes at 800 mm.I didn't play with the length at all.Just wanted a base run of both engines.I used the same MSC 32\10 prop on both engines,it's alot of wood!! They both have the same carb on them.I only turned the high speed needles on both engine till they pretty much smoothed out.

Both engines are very smooth running and have great throttle response even being new.They are both new and never run befrore other than at the factory.The 3W was 300 rpm stronger.They both started first flip after being primed.How does one choose and engine when they are both so good.

Any info you have on the AMT pipes would be greatly appreciated Dick.I would like to get them tuned correctly.

The MSC is a broader prop than the Menz and although they work extremely well,you should generally drop one prop size from the other manufactureres.I'm positive that a 32\10 Menz would turn a few hundred rpm more.So that being said the rpm's were

3W 157 5690
ZDZ 160 5400

You are correct Dick,I will prop with a lighter load on both engines.It was the only prop I had to test with at the time.It still shows the 3W to be quite strong.

Oh its a strong motor alright. I've been trying to fly mine as much as possible in this miserable Phoenix heat and have been very impressed with the way it's hurling my 38lb Extra around in 100+ degree weather. Bought a digital postal scale last week and was finally able to accurately weigh the plane only to find out it weighs 39lbs 13.7 oz. With a full load of fuel my pig is over 40lbs! And I thought this thing was ballistic at what I thought was 38lbs. Motor has 3.5 gallons through it now spinning a 32x12 Fuchs @5950. Using MTW TD100's for sound control. Elevation 1700. Oil Amzoil @80:1.

Plane Insane....So what your saying is mine will be terrific in our 70 degree heat:D:D.Can't wait till spring,it will be in a Dalton 260.I have all winter to read what you guys use for props,makes my selection cheap and easy;).Enjoy,I know it startled me when I opened her up on the bench.Think I'll go for the MTW cans also.

The cans do help Dick, but I run the exact same cans on my Toc'd 150 and this thing is already 200rpms stronger. Plus I haven't even run the 150 this summer so I can't really say what it would tach in this hot weather.

FYI for comparison, I have a 150SS on 1090 pipes, 6350 on the fuchs 32x12, 8th gallon, 100 degree heat @600 MSL. I am going to pull it off the plane and throw a 157 on the pipes to see how it does. 6050-6100 on the 3W 3d prop. I sure do like how the 157s look, nice casting on those, cant wait to try one myself.

Razr.....Is it easy to tune the 1090 pipes.I will have the kit next week so I can see if they fit.

They are just set to the length KS told to be set at. Did the same on my QS 106. No prob.

Where can I get the ks pipes for my 3W 157? I am putting it in a TOC 40% Yak.

Desert Aircraft has them, and Aircraft International (I think) They are expensive, but worth the dough!!! I'm just gonna run Pefa cans on mine when I get it.
