Can anyone describe the failure mode on the timing sensor. If I have spark while slowly turning the magnet past the sensor does that guarantee spark at wot?

thanks

John

John,
I am NO expert, but in general either electronic components work or they don't. If you say it works while spinning over by hand then I have to imagine it's working properly. The strength of the spark might be a different story. What are the symptoms?

A sensor works at way more rpm than any engine will turn...A sensor is bad if it doesn't work when turning the shaft slowly past TDC..The strength of the spark has nothing to do with the sensor, or the rpm.....(Within reason)..
If the sensor has moved away from the magnet more than 1/16"
it won't work properly...

Thanks for the responses.

I have reichmuth ignition on a 75cc poulan conversion. The motor threw the prop off in the air. Back on the ground, it will start and run 10-20 seconds and quit.

I've been thru the fuel system, checked and reset the timing, tried a ch syncrospark(with timing reset) all to no avail. I'm beginning to think I have a leak in the crankcase somewhere.

The motor has around 150 flights on it after limited use in hacking up trees.

Any ideas or suggestions?

You need to verify if the timing is correct. Throwing a prop while flying makes me wonder if it backfired or a severe spark knock.
