igntion module??
 

does anyone know of a vendor to get a replacement igntion module ??mine is a 3w..does it have to be 3w or is it a generic item??

3W or DA, either will work.
I had a big problem with a 3W, turned out to be the sensor..See if you can borrow a good one from someone to test with your ignition, way cheaper than a new module...:D

Sensors do tend to go bad more often than modules. Try and get a sensor to try as stated.

CH ignition is not a direct replacement for the older 3W ignition or any DA ignition. The old 3W and DA use a pickup coil to sense the timing of the magnet in the hub. The CH and new 3W use a Hall sensor. Not sure if the magnet polarity is correct for a CH to 3W interchange. You will also have to retime the ignition by putting the sensor in a different location.

I had intermittent problems with my 3W ignition (about 4 years old) and replaced it with a DA ignition. Problem solved. I was able to use the same magnet in the same hub with the same sensor. Just bought the ignition module itself without the sensor. Had to solder a different connector on the sensor, I think.

My problem was that after about 15 minutes of run time, especially on a hot day, I would get very poor running, probably losing a cylinder or missing some cycles. The change was sudden and would force me to land. Cool off, re-fuel and I was OK again (for another 15 minute flight). As long as I stayed under 15 minutes, I was fine.

But with the DA ignition, I can fly the tank dry (about 20 or 25 minutes). Dave at DA said the ignitions were of similar design, but his may have better heat dissipation thru the case.

The engine is a 4 year old 3W 100 B2.
