what gas eng.for a balsa usa se5

i have a balsa usa se5a and a fokker d 7 both 1/4 scale. im looking at the rcs 1.80 or the roto 35(leaning twords the 1.80 because of the 6 bolt hub for scale efect) but the max weight is 20#.the planes max out at 20#.so i was wondering how well the 1.80 would pull on a wood prop.they call for a g 26 but my experionce with the 26 is you half to use a apc prop to get any power out of them.i want to use a wood prop for scale affect.can anyone help or sugust a engine.i have about 5"(thrust line to bottem of cowl) of clearence to keep it in the cowl.

I'm building 2 of the S.E.5a's with G-38s. It looks like all radio gear will have to be in the forward section of the wing saddle for balance. If you plan on using a lighter engine, stock up on lead, you'll need it!

I've got their DR-1. I might try a ZDZ40 or 50. the 50 is overkill, but will swing a scale size prop. they also have the multi-bolt hub.

i dont know me (or anyone els at the field)could never figure it out.it was hard to start, once it did start it would always die in the air.over heated most of the time even though most of the engine was exposed.it ran fine at break in on the bench, but when it went in the plane,it just wouldnt run.

A rear exhaust G-38 by RCIGN.... Wow, smooth slow idle, big prop, very easy hand starts. This would be a perfect complement to the SE5a!

I had to slightly twist the motor abot 3 degrees to keep from putting a hole in the side for the carb, but that was no problem. I am running Bennett mufflers which fit quite well, the Bissons I had originally picked up were way too BIG.

Hi, I have a Balsa USA SE5A. I am flying it with a Zenoah 26cc. I lightened the tail and only added 2 strips of stick on lead to the nose. The plane is covered in cover all and painted with latex from Walmart. I fly at just over 5000 feet. I can loop the plane at half throttle. I was told that it can't be done. My plane weighs less than 18 lbs. I have been flying it for about 5 years. Flies great.

I just finished my BUSA SE5A and it's the BEST flying plane that I own! I was not a fan of the G38, but let me tell you it's the best engine for this plane. I'm pullin around 6800 RPMs with a 19X8 Zeor prop.

Good Luck,

Ray.
