RE: Engine for Midwest Super Stinker
I guess it all depends on your definition of "almost" ..
Sorry, a Poulan 46 will not show 30 lbs of thrust, no matter who made it..Not even almost...;) |
RE: Engine for Midwest Super Stinker
Both the Taurus and the Brison 2.4 would be good choices. A G-38 would be a little on the heavy side in stock form, but RCIGN could fix that issue right quickly. A Saito 1.80 to 2.20 would also work extremely well. Glow sucks though...

The venerable G-38. I find it turns an 18x8 with a tad more authority than a G26. Not worth the weight penalty in a Super Stinker to me, this doesn't berate it's value as a great engine though. Few can have it all ways. Better a magneto than lead for balancing a model. The 38 is smooth and reliable. I'm sure everyone may be familiar with what Toni Clark of Germany is doing with Zenoah acc.'s. I happily invest in this stuff. Intake manifolds that turn 90% to use the fuselage to muffle intake noise and keep out debris for starters. Custom exhausts and building acc.'s that make one believe that building is still alive and well supported.
Attached are a couple configurations of the G38 with a 2.8 to 1 reduction unit either side or stacked. There are a great number of custom mounts, exhausts and manifold available from Toni. Dig deep, for me anyway,$$, but this stuff is a joy to use for all sizes. I use G62 and G26 acc.'s from Toni. Observe the Curtis Jenny and it's weight and the fact it is flown by a reduced G38, ZG38 if in Europe. This says a lot for me to the integrity and staying power of the G38. |
RE: Engine for Midwest Super Stinker
haha.the answer to your question was right in the ad i saw above this post:
BCMA-SPE40 - 40cc Engine The BCMA-SPE40 2.4 cubic inch engine brings gasoline power in a small light weight package that can amazingly enough fit many 1.20 sized sport 3D planes. This engine's dimensions are especially well suited for sport performance models like fitting any of the popular brands of 140-1.60 size Cap 232, Extra 300, or Edge 540 stunt/3D aircraft. The design goal of this engine was to be an ideal replacement for thirsty 1.60-2.10 size glow engines for aerobatic planes and 1.60 size engine applications so you can enjoy the benefits of no mess, no hassle gasoline power in your giant scale model. (Note: Velocity stack as shown is not included.) The BCMA-SPE40 features: Cast aluminum purpose built crankcase with low internal volume for increased power. High quality, light weight dual ring domed piston for superior compression and a chrome plated cylinder for long life. A large bore 13.5mm venturi Zama carburetor with a custom machined aluminum throttle output arm that is set-up for straight-line easy ball-link control rod installation. Light weight Pitts style muffler that fits inside most cowl arrangements. Muffler is internally braced for high strength and durability. (auto timing advance) BCMA-eXL CDI electronic ignition for easy hand starting and super smooth idle and transition. The BCMA-SPE40 uses 4 included 1-3/4" machined aluminum stand-offs for a radial type mount with a small footprint making it easy to install in many different model aircraft's cowlings without serious modification. This engine is also very small for its size just like its smaller sibling. It occupies the same mounting space and size of a Zenoah G26 while weighing 8 ounces less! The BCMA-SPE40 is 9 ounces lighter than the closest competitor, Fuji Imvac BT-43, and easily matches it for power. The FPE 2.4 is the closest match to the BCMA-SPE40 for weight, size, and power but it costs over $200.00 more! Add it all up. High quality, easy operation, economical operation, small size, light weight, and best of all Low price! |
RE: Engine for Midwest Super Stinker
Hey Jake,
I used to have a Midwest Super Stinker and it had a Moki 180 on it. I wouldn't go any smaller than that glow power wise..a Moki 210 would be better. If you want a gasser, then a ZDZ 40, Brison 2.4 or BME 44 would be great...I saw one fly a while back with the BME 44 setup and it was awsome...Just my opinion...Kevin |

Can you guys give your opinion on using the new DA-35
|
Well, you've revived an 8 year old thread:o. So I don't know if you'll get any feedback from the original posters.
That said, I think the DLE35RA would be a good choice:) Pete |
Thx. Didn't realize the last post was that old. Love that super stinker. Had one and crashed it so building another one.

Super stinker bash
Hey i know this is an old thread but i recently traded a plane for a midwest super stinker , i am in the process of stripping the monokote to check everything over and make a few mods . I was wondering if anybody had any suggestions on this and also since i want insane power and i have it already , i wonder if anybody had used a dle 55 for power .
|
These more modern engines weigh a good bit less so that shouldn't be a problem at all, and it will give you the power you seek. (I'm the same way; see my signature.) .Overall, I would say it would make a very nice combination. Make it strong while you are refurbishing it!

how did it do with the DLE 55? I know the thread is old and your post over 6 months old but I have a NIB kit and got a VVRC 40 Twin for Christmas so was wondering how it would be. I want to keep weight down but need the power of a single cylinder I think. Thanks, JR |
Haven't gotten her up yet , but I am finally back on it and the bird should be ready for maiden in about two weeks !
Too many birds , never enough time ! |
