Evolution/Mvvs 58
Flew/started my 58 for the 1st time yesterday. I had a BME 24/10 on it and turned 6200 rpm with the high needle 1 1/2 out way rich. Bisson muffler is also restrictive I suspect.
Initial mix 32/1 as per the maual It was very easy starting except for the tendancy to run backwards which threw me at 1st. I must say I was impressed as it hauled my Ultimate around with ease. |

Which Bisson muffler did you buy? Tom carries 2 different ones. A quiet one and a power one. I bought the power one from him.

RE: Evo/Mvvs 58
Well Roger the EVO guys may want to change their name as everone round here calls them Evos and they mean Horizons brand of motors glow and gas..its a natural shortening of the Evolution:D or maybe not and get free marketing!!!!

RE: Evolution/Mvvs 58
This is an old problem - for many different companies
A name -even if it is trademarked - can end up in a muddle if that name was used commonly by someone else - prior to the trademark going into effect. Some names even quickly become so commonly used that they become "public" . (generic) Have you ever "googled" someone? Asked for a "kleenex"? It's pretty hard to get people to change habits. A legal fight can be futile - first -you have to prove harm. And intent to harm And that the name has been carefully protected from improper use. It is much like a patent- which is not worth a sou if it is not watched like a hawk. |
RE: Evolution/Mvvs 58
Hey Hanson, I have a question for you. I took my Evolution 58 to a friend's house to get help adjusting the engine and what not. I went to the pump to get gas and I just skipped the "break-in oil" that comes with the engine and used a 32:1 mixture of Mobil 1. Well, the Mobil 1 looked just like the "break-in oil" that came with the engine and in the manual it says to only run synthetic racing oil. Think they're the same or do you even know? I guess it would depend on if the 26 comes with break in oil to.

RE: Evolution/Mvvs 58
Ben, The oil is the same,Mvvs likes Mobil, muffler is a Bisson not quiet

Google pull up...a Surf board, a car and amongst others a computer game:)

RE: Evolution/Mvvs 58
I started using the Mobil 1 based on what the MVVS guys thought of it .
The ratio of 32-1 I was already sold on -using Redline Racing two stroke etc.. I run my engines at higher revs - as many have found -this is where the REAL power is . I don't want the engine cooking or the bottom end suffering from low oil . The 26 MVVS has small rod bearings - it has to -to keep the size down to where it all fits in the case used So using a lube which gives the bearings a fighting chance buzzing at 10,000 rpm or being pounded to death at 7000 --was necessary |

I guess we will have to make sure that people relate to the EVO engines by reputation.:D Roger |
RE: Evolution/Mvvs 58
I'm willing to bet your low RPM is due to two factors: 1) New Engine and 2) You said it was way rich, which isn't bad. WE got mine adjusted but weren't able to put a tachometer on it. Two things to try are to properly adjust the carb and if you're still not getting good numbers after at least two gallons, cut off ends of the pipes on the muffler with a dremel. The holes look pretty big to me if we have the same muffler. About the same as the Slimline DA 50 muffler which is often modified for this engine and gets the same numbers as the set up on a can. I wish Slimline would make mufflers for this engine, but i'm not King yet. I know the engine likes to turn somewhere around upper 6700's to lower 6900's in the RPM range. It'll probably happen once you lean it out a little bit and get some time on it though. I wish the snow would melt so I could maiden my Edge and see what this engine can do.

RE: Evolution/Mvvs 58
Give it a fighten chance to seat in properly- the mobil at32-1 is correct -from day one -
Do not overprop it! in Denver -a 24x10 is a full load -and ideally a prop which revs easily -such as Mejzlic 24x10- Skorepa 24x10 - Zinger Pro 24x10 The MenzS24x10 is a great prop and as much load as you want to run. The Bambula 24x10 is going to show th most load (lowest rpm- static -but in cruisin around -likely the quietest one . The engine is NOT an 80 - forget that stuf -it is a really good 60 |
RE: Evolution/Mvvs 58
I for one am not in the 100-1 crowd. I have always run stuff in the 32-50-1 range. Yes I know the rpms could be higher but Im still on the 1st gallon. Sat I started leaning it a bit at a time.
Its running a BME 24/10 which doesnt seem to be a huge load on it and its pretty free revving head is not hot to the touch after landing. As to the muffler cutting of the tips is my 1st move after I buy a Bisson. Im not a big fan of their mufflers as I find the construction poor and restrictive, Ive had 3 crack on me despite being mounted correctly ( braced ) at the time it was the only one I could find. |
RE: Evolution/Mvvs 58
Yeah, I have a 3W 24x10 coming. It will be lighter which will help to put less stress on the engine. After a couple gallons, I'll probably put Mejzlik back on and try it. I bought the Mejzlik thinking that CF props were lighter than wood ones, but I was wrong. Plus now I can compare the two. Now i'm debating over whether or not to buy a case of the Mobil 1 oil or just go to the local motorcycle shop and buy Amsoil Dominator. No one in town carries it that I know of. I found a few studies saying that the Amsoil was better, but they were also sponsored by Amsoil. It's hard to beleive anything is better than Mobil 1 in my book.

RE: Evolution/Mvvs 58
here I found that Autozone carries the Mobil if that helps @$6.95 a quart
|
RE: Evolution/Mvvs 58
The weight of the prop is not where the load comes from -it is the prop load . (effective resistance to turning)
|
RE: Evolution/Mvvs 58
Either way, I want to compare the two.
