tachometer

would any one direct me to a good tachomete, I have a mechanical tach which is very good but not a good idea to hold it on the from shaft when the prop is spinning at 6500 rpm.

Thanks for any info you can provide

Forgues research, The best Tach available for two and three blade props you can get from Fromeco-batteries.com. It's called a "TNC" tach.

The Hobbico tach has to be held pretty close to the prop blade to work. Still very dangerous.

The TMC tach first mentioned by Bob will work a foot away from the prop. And very seldom do relections give false readings. But this tach costs more money.

My TNC is an old original...It has been dropped, flung across the room when hit by a prop blade, soaked with gas when my test stand tank sprung a leak, and otherwise abused..It's like an old Timex watch, takes a licking and keeps on ticking..I replaced the original on and off switch with a pushbutton...I always forgot to turn it off and ran the battery down....
The case is now held together with clear strapping tape, the screw heads went through the back cover...It still works great....:D

I have a Hobbico read at 12" with accuracy, The TMC can take reading from 6" but hard to aim that far if small props, but I think the TMC may be of better quality especially if used commercially. But for hobby Hobbico is reasonably affordable.MHOP

About the TMC tac. I meant it can take reading from 6feet and of course from 6inch.

The new "TNC" tach works just as well, if not better, than the original TNC tach. I have both and love both. They replaced the ON/OFF switch on the original with a push button on the new one. Plus, the new TNC tach displays all digits without pressing an extra button and remembers the highest rpm reading. These are the best tachs ever.

We have three different tachs that we use just to make sure of accuracy.
TNC,Shimpo and Accu-Tac. All very good. The TNC has never failed us.

When I ordered mine from Don's Hobby Shop in Salina, Kansas Don said they had a whole case of them. I don't know if he was Don Apostilico or a younger employee named Don.

Hi Roger, If you have made up your mind that you definitely want the "TNC" tach, I would get the latest edition. (the one with the push button) Looks like Ralph, (RCign) was ahead of the curve with that modification. I'm not sure who all has it but I do know that Fromeco, has them available.

You won't be disappointed with the new TNC.

Well the TNC from Kurt of Fromeco is the one I bought and just received it. It looks real good.

Now if the temperature can go down a bit, I'll be able to test it with my EVO 80 that I'm breaking in on the bench.
