DA50 ignition switch

Hey guys, am I ok just using a heavy duty switch harness between the battery and the ignition, as well as a choke servo for adequite kill switchage??

Sure, in fact a heavy duty switch harness will better take the vibrations so I would be using them for the receiver also. I would also use some sort optical kill besides the choke. My thoughts are if the engine/firewall comes loose it may bind the throttle/choke linkages to the point you cannot kill it with the choke. I've never had it happen but I have seen it happen and the pilot had the optical kill and was able to shutdown the engine even though he had not throttle or choke control

I personally use the Smart-Fly optical kill and it only weighs 1 ounce

Me 2!!! I actually dont even use a switch..I just use the SF to shut down/turn on the ignition..if the rx looses power the SF shuts down anyway..I also have a choke servo and can cut the throttle with my TX as well..

Ok so thats 2 votes for the SF.

I appreciate the advice guys but I think I am going with the RCAT: http://www.rcatsystems.com/electronics/rc100.php

I mean its 50cc's and I dont need all the lights and dual rx BS, and there are bigger glow motors than this thing.

ME too.

Schweet!! Having said that though, believe me, when I finish my 34%er with 2 rx and 3 batts and the whole 9 nine yards I will probably------------still not use the SF switch. Just kidding!! Or am I, ok I will.

Andy,

I think RCATS also has some kind of optical kill :D

The whole idea is you want to be able to kill the engine that is not related to anything that has a linkage to it. There is even a setup on Towers site that uses a micro switch and a servo but it pprobably weighs something like 3 or 4 ounces. The weight and simplicity of the optical switches are why we use them.

There is an rcats that does have fiberoptics but they have a nice little one that doesnt. You just put it inline with the ignition wiring and it lets you shut down with a trans switch, or power failure.
