DA50 general questions

Hi everyone.

I've dug and searched all over the place and have been unable to find a manual for the DA50. I just purchased a really low time one. I also would like to know what everyone is using for breakin oil mix and prop sizes and brands.

I've tried calling DA since last Friday (Fri, Mon, and today) and keep getting the answering machine and so far no replies to any emails

Thanks a bunch

as for break in... I am using lawnboy ashless at 32:1 and been using a few props... NX 22 x 8 and NX 23 x 8..

tried a Menz 24 x 8, but I think it may have been a bit too much so early

Definately use the Lawnboy ashless 32:1 for the first 5 gallons. Then switch to Amsoil Sabre 100:1. For break-in use a 22x8 and after break-in use a 23x8. I have gotten great performance out of the the Mezlik 23x8 carbon fiber.

Home Depot carries it. Any place that sells lawn and garden equipment, small engine places, hardware stores.

Thats awesome, thanks. Do you guys think I am ok to fly it the first time I run it on the stock needle settings. I will finish the model thursday hopefully maiden it on friday and participate in a basic IMAC clinic on saturday.

I ran mine at stock settings for the first half gallon (2 high, 1 7/8 low). Then set to 1 1/2 on both and mine ran really well after a half gallon. I'd still keep it on the rich side and keep the speed up for good cooling.

You tune the motor for best performance. Let the oil do the break in for you. thats why your using the breakin oil in the first place.dont be scared to lean it out.

Lean the top end for max RPM.

Then set your low for good Smooth transcition.

And run a 22" prop let the motor rev its not going to hurt it.

Since I have a new DA-50, first time DA owner...what does everyone think is the best way to connect the ignition to the battery. Are you all soldering together adapters since the DA has the heavy duty connector?

RE: DA50 general questions

Just a quick update.

Dave did email me back last night and sent me the updated DA manual as a word document. He was also kind enough to tell me my engine is updated and was very nice to talk too.

Also, If you are trying to contact them, they are swamped right now and a little short on staff. He expects is full staff to be back next week so if you are trying to contact them, just hang on. It will be worth it.

Dang, I've gotten really lucky this week, I've had to talk to John from Aerotech and Dave from DA and both have been excellent. My compliments to you both :D:D[sm=thumbup.gif][sm=thumbup.gif] You guys rock [sm=punching.gif][sm=punching.gif][sm=biggrin.gif][sm=biggrin.gif]

Im running 2 turns on the high end and 1.25 on the low end. My engine seems to blubber in the mid-throttle range, but the transition is ok and i dont get the power i need. If i take the low end to 1 rotation the power n transition are awesome, but the engine quits n i think its due to being lean. secondly, on extended downlines, my engine quits. Is it becoz it starves with the clunkline being at the back, or is is due to being overly rich? pls advise.
I fly at 700ft asl and am using a 22x8 msc prop. I have 25 tanks of fuel thru it as of now. oil blend is 33:1

Thanks

Peak means lean the high end needle to max RPM ( lets say 7000 is peak RPM ). turn the needle counter clockwise to richen up the high end needle. so know the engine turns 6700 RPM.

yes like a glow.

Dennis

Hah.. Peak RPM does not equal Max RPM.. They need that in the manual..

Thanks for clearing that up..
